Neck Finish Termination Point?

Postby KodeeSquid23 » Sat Aug 12, 2017 12:44 pm

Wondering if anyone has some insight on this. If you get a tung oil neck with a gloss body, can you feel the transition point when playing? On a Vader, where exactly does the transition fall? Is it noticable when playing on the upper register?

Thanks!

I think it depends on what kind of paint finish you have. My Vader body has paint with gloss and I can feel it with my fingers. That said, when my pinky is on the 24th fret, the inside of my thumb is just reaching that point on the neck. I honestly never noticed it while playing. On the low end the taper hits at the 18th fret on the high end it's on the 22nd fret.

I hope that helps.

Thanks DWG! I'll stick with the stock masking line.

I have a V7 satin body with a tung neck.
If your thumb is around the 17th fret you can feel the line. Very slightly, but it's there.
Has absolutely no effect on playability.

A complete non-issue.

I had a mahogany neck and body DC127 back in the day. Gloss classic sunburst finish with a tung neck. The transition line did not affect play-ability at all.
