Can you still order discontinued models : CL450

Postby Rocky » Wed Aug 16, 2017 7:56 pm

Hello Everyone,

I am planning on buying a nylon crossover guitar and am curious if you can still order a CL450. I know that it has been discontinued but have heard that it is still possible to order discontinued models.

May be they could add a page to the Kiesel web site to explain which models are discontinued, if you can order one and what the stipulations are if you do ?

Not those. They were not actually a Carvin/Kiesel product, just a branded import.

I think you are thinking of the "Cobalt" acoustic guitars that they offered for a while. The CL450 was built in CA. Similar to the AC375 but with nylon strings. They have the NS1, but it is a chambered body. I am looking for an an acoustic nylon crossover instrument.

there area some models they can seemingly still do, and others they can't/won't. Your best best is to call them when you are ready, credit card in hand. If they can, it would for sure be non-returnable.

Since the construction is unique compared to the other products, with its unique fan bracing, i might half expect a "no", but would also love to know either way!

I'd call and ask, I ordered one shortly after it was abruptly discontinued. They did say it would be available for a short time after it's been discontinued. Maybe you can squeeze one in. It will also be non-returnable! And you would have to get a KIESEL logo!!

Normally that would bum me out. I am thinking it would make it real rare if not one of a kind. Kind of cool in this case. Hope it works out.

Hello Everyone,

The answer from Kiesel is NO. No real explanation. The guitar business must be good. :-) I will find another company that makes a nylon hybrid acoustic.

If you are interested on one of the older models, better order it before it is discontinued. I would not bet that the AC275, AC375 or NS1 will be available much longer.

Th CL450 Nylon string is pretty darn quiet unplugged compared to the AC375 steel string which is at least loud enough to play on the couch unplugged.
I have both. I would argue that a NS1 likely sounds pretty close to the CL450 plugged in and since they are really only useful plugged in the NS1 could still be an option for you even if you don't need the thirteen pin midi. Just sayin. Or keep your eyes peeled on the used market.

That dissapointed, since it's fully hollow.

This is the NS1, so it seems like it should be muuuch quiter than the CL450. :(

I'm sure the NS1 is even quieter than the CL450.
But if I put the CL450 and the AC375 on guitar stands next to the couch unplugged I will always end up playing the AC375 it's quite a bit louder because of the steel strings yet still quieter than a full bodied acoustic. Great for a little late night therapy.
I also have a AC275 which is much quieter than the AC375 unplugged and I actually prefer that the AC275 plugged in for finger picking. Maybe I prefer the 25in scale slightly. The AC375 sounds great also it's just slightly different

That makes sense, then, that it would be so quiet if the CL450 is quiter than a "real" classical which would likely be quieter than an AC375 which is quieter than a "real" acoustic....more steps down than I could have thought.

The CL450 and AC375 of mine are both mahogany body and neck with red cedar tops.

This reminds me of those marble maze games, where you navigate the marble on the tiltable maze with knobs on the side.

 That's why I don't mind that it doesn't have a sound hole. I would drop a pick in their within 4 seconds of holding the guitar. :laughhard:

lol never thought of that. Black hole to another dimension. Then when you shake the guitar it sounds like cockroaches running around inside.

Looks like there are two used ones out there right now (ebay & reverb).
