If the rumor is true that they'll focus on pedals, maybe the Legacy pedal showed them they can succeed in that market. I have zero inside knowledge, but it might been a trial balloon to determine if they should move in that direction or permanently close. It'll be interesting to watch to see if they quietly start cranking out pedals in the future. I think it'd be cool if they did.
Regarding the name - Carvin was my first guitar porn crush. I had my first catalog delivered in 8th grade or so. I have 1 guitar I bought new, and an X212B that's an early 90's fuzzy. I love them both.
The good news for those that want to continue acquiring amps, their stuff historically is cheap aftermarket and will continue to be found used for years, likely still at amazing values.
