That's a darn nice job, and kudos on the fit where you didn't have bezels to hide the edges!

Next time: sharp chisels are your friend. :)

Dude. That rules so hard I can't even find the way to express it.
1 thought. Routers are good tools. Tools are invented to make tasks more accessible, or feasible. Just sayin'.
I love your Vanquish mod, all considered. :ninja:

Wicked. We need to start a P90 Awareness Month for all members of the so called "K-Fam." (Lol)

At very least just pull out the schematic for the venerable and legendary AP6. Aside from the M line, it's probably got the most vintage mojo from being in the hands of great players and on so many great Carvin and Mosrite guitars. Joe Maphis, Hendrix, the Ventures, Nirvana (not 100% certain on the latter, I know he played a couple of Mosrite guitars, one being the Gospel axe but that didn't have the Carvin pickups).

Anyhow this isn't rocket science man. Come on boys, just start winding the AP6 again, celebrate their history, and make some freaking money! Such simple pickups to make, don't need any bezels if you build them as a soapbar, two simple freaking mounting screws and !Bam!.

Although the original manufacturing style with that little built in mount with the two side screws was pretty unique and helped make them immediately identifiable.

Doooooo ittttt.

Just curious op. What kind of P90S did you throw in your Vanquish?

I apologize if you said this and I missed it... what brand of P-90 is that?

I have been trying to dodge the question. Because its a cheapo. I have found out that brands like Artec, Wilkinson, etc have interesting sounding P90s. maybe because the materials are cheap, or whatever... even though they hum like mofos they sound kinda crappy-cool. So this P90 in particular is a $20 neck p90 i bought from a guy/seller named "guitarmadness" (ebay).

Having said that, I must say that I am not a shredder nor a bluesman. Hence my quest for a less-than-premium pickup, think "lo-fi" more that Steve Vai.

I am considering getting a finer item in the near future. I have a Kent Armstrong P90 (humbucker size) in my CT4 and sounds pretty good. I'm almost sure the Kent Armstrong Stealth P90 will be my choice, although a Lindy Fralin would be perhaps the best option. But the more I play the Vanquish, I start noticing it may not be a model that maximizes the benefits of a P90. The 24-fret neck+vanquish's short body locates the neck pickup fairly close to the bridge. I found out the P90 sounded much better on a Bolt because of it distance away from the bridge (makes sense?).

Nothing wrong with that. I really like the Warman "Soapy Joes" P-90s, which are also cheap. :)

YES, especially with clean tones. Having the pickup sit closer to (or under) the 24 fret harmonic is much more ideal, especially for a neck P90 whose greatest utility is lightly broken up to clean jazz tones. Some of the most beautiful pick attack dynamics in the bidniz.

A 24 fret neck pushes it away from that area. It's the reason I'm so maniacal about retaining that very old M22N on my 150, a 24 fret set neck guitar. The clarity of the pickup while retaining such girth gives it the best shot at maintaining that bubbly beauty while losing a bit of the classic 22 fret neck pup freq.

I can't believe I hadn't thought about that before! The old M22N was made to sound best in a 24-fret guitar! Duh!
Sorry to hi-jack the thread, but thanks for the epiphany!

You may recall that I have that same pickup in my SH225 and sort of have a love-hate relationship with it. It splits so beautifully that I haven't wanted to swap it out. In humbucker mode it's just too deep and thick for me so it's nearly always split in my guitar. But put it on a 24-fretter... now I get it! 8)
