The only guitar I've ever had fall off of a strap had Schaller straplocks installed. I've never had a guitar fall off of a nice leather strap with normal buttons.

Nowadays, I just go to my local homebrew store and ask for a couple of Grolsch gaskets. A few cents for straplocks that don't interfere with the ordinary strap buttons; hard to beat that.

These simple locks from Mawson (or something like them, I don't remember the brand) were the first I ever used, back in the late 70s. Never had a failure with them, either.
