Could anyone please measure their Carvin/Kiesel for me?

Postby speedyone » Thu Jan 11, 2018 2:18 pm

Hi all!

I’m looking into whether or not I can fit a new Flat Mount Floyd Rose on any existing Carvin or Kiesel which is using their tune-o-matic style bridge.

Floyd Rose customer service told me their new model of Floyd WILL fit, as long as there is the clearance for height. I will need 18.5mm (3/4") height from the body at the D string for the bridge to fit.

Could anyone please measure their Carvin/Kiesel which uses the tune-o-magic style bridge to see if there is adequate height?

Thanks guys for any help!!!

I’m looking to get an original H2 and mount the new Floyd on it.

Were you able to confirm that it would work with kiesel's TOM post spacing?

Well, Floyd Rose customer service has a PDF:

Not sure if Carvin/Kiesel spacing will match....

So if I'm correct, this uses the TOM bridge itself, and not the stop-tail posts, correct?

I'll try to measure my CS6 when i get home. I will say that it was from 2008, so there's a CHANCE that they may have changed suppliers over the past 10 years, so perhaps someone else sees/responds with something more recent...

Well, on the videos I have seen about installing the new Floyd, they took a Gibson SG, and another guitar with a standard tune-o-matic bridge, removed the original bridge, then just popped the Floyd into the existing holes.

I’ll post a link:

Ahh...watching that video, I wouldn't trust my number because I only have the actual bridge posts, not the stop tail since it's string-through.

That said, I found the measurements for a roller bridge that 2 folks here have used as a drop-in replacement for their Carvin/Kiesel TOM, and it's slightly narrower than the string spacing on the Floyd brige:

Roller bridge string spacing span: 2" (50.8mm)
FRX string spancing span: 2.05" (52.1mm)

Here's the bridge that a couple of folks here have used:

Thanks very much for checking into this!

I think I’m gonna call Kiesel tomorrow and just ask if the Floyd dimensions will work....

Exciting news—

Talked to Albert, and after viewing the Floyd bridge specs, he said it should work in theory!

Now, to spec-out the new build...

:applause: Excellent news, man. Spud always comes through, and it sounds like Albert was able to fill in a fuller picture for you. I hope your quest for information leads you where you want to be. Good luck.

Thanks!!

I had an H2 about 4 years ago. I loved it, but I have to use super light gauge strings— oo7 and 008– and I could never keep the guitar in tune with those gauges.

But now, being able to have a Floyd on it means I CAN use my strings I love, AND stay in tune!!!!

I can hardly wait!!!

Just watched the video, gosh that thing is ugly.
Just get a H2 with a wilkinson. I have one and it stays in tune well.

Or the hipshot contour as mentioned in your other thread.
It's subtle, less clutter, less to go wrong imo.

Though the Floyd may be ugly, there’s no chance a Wilkinson will say in tune with 007 or 008 gauge strings :)

009s or 010s maybe!

:)

Plus, Carvin/Kiesel Wilkinson’s have always been a crapshoot; you never know if you’ll get a good or bad one.
