Pity there's no 8 version or multi version. I know there'd only be a super small number of ERG people who'd want them, but I'm one of them!

spudmunkey wrote:Yes the 7 string guitar models have had their routes enlarged to for the coveted pickups. This is kind of a bummer as I always liked the route 7-strings with the more open-coil-pickup-matching corner radius, unlike the 6-string models which are more squared-off.
I totally agree with this statement they should keep the form fitting route as an option because it looks awesome, maybe they could add it to the 6 while they are at it. Then we could all have our cake and eat it too. It just looks better for the direct mount pups

Re: New pickup covers!
Great idea to have both. It would make it less flexible later on, though, so there's a trade-off.
Here's another example of a route optimized for open coil pickups:

So am I getting this right?
Even if you get uncovered pickups they enlarge the routing so there's extra space? Even with no covers?

Re: New pickup covers!
Yes the form fitting route is way more aesthetically pleasing to the eye. We should lobby to keep this as a option for the 7 and add it to the 6.
I also like the new covers with the adjustable pole pieces as well. I think I preffer the Bezel look with those.

Re: New pickup covers!
That's awful. I really like the idea of covers as an option (even though I usually prefer no covers).
But the idea that you have all this extra space around an uncovered pickup totally sucks.

This is what they do on all six strings by default, whether they have bezels or not. It's just now they're extending this to the seven string models.

Re: New pickup covers!
And gold covers are an upcharge in addition to the upcharge for picking gold hardware?

Re: New pickup covers!
Notice how the screw area is also square shaped on the 6, where as the 7 the screw mount is rounded just like the pickup contour.

LolWUT of all LolWUTs!!
If you're going to create the negative space of a bezel running all around the edges of a humbucker right where the bezel would be.. then... Why not just... Mount a bezel?
Sorry that's quacky. No like.
(I like the Aries though.)

Re: New pickup covers!
The one thing slightly helping on that one is the fact that the pickups are black which doesn't contrast with the blackness of the moat surrounding the pup. Light/white pups are the least ideal I'd say, at least in terms of the discussion here.

Re: New pickup covers!
The more I see it, the more I dislike it.
I usually prefer having bezels anyway and leave direct-mounts for more raw-looking builds.

Re: New pickup covers!
Hah, it's been that way all along and I've never noticed anything wrong with it. Maybe it's just that I like the look of direct-mount pickups and don't really care much about the shape of the rout. It always looked fine to me.
I will say that I find it marginally easier to adjust pickup height with the mounting ring, than without.

Anyone know if you can get the covered humbucker in a Bolt pickguard?

Re: New pickup covers!
I don't recall ever seeing an S22 on a HSS bolt, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen. It might take some manual modification to the pickguard but as long as the mounting holes are the same, it should be possible.

Yeah, I'd imagine they would have to mod the humbucker pickguard hole to accommodate the cover...but, I figure that would be way less labor intensive than some of the option 50 options lingering about.
