HH2 Possibilities

Postby ZooHead » Wed May 16, 2018 11:26 am

I just ordered a V6 less than a week ago and I'm already dreaming up another one.

Alan Holdsworth was definitely one of my guitar heroes, I wish I knew one tenth of the scales he knows.

His design is simple, following the same kind of shape as the Tele, but it looks much smaller.

Here's what I'm thinking: 1. Black Limba Body/Neck finished in Trans Green Moss (pistachio)
2. Killer Spalted Top with a deep clear satin finish
3. Thin black layer between top and body
4. Spalted Maple fingerboard same finish as the body
5. HH Holdsworth Pups

Should I make it chambered? How heavy is black limba?

Here's a mockup of the back I made with Cheetah 3D. Wood material is made from a cool image I found on the web.

Cool! Go for it.

My Mahogany / Walnut HH2 weighs about 5 pounds. Mine is chambered, but I can't tell you whether you should chamber yours. Every cut of black limba will vary in weight.

I don't think you can get a spalted maple fretboard, but consider a flame or birdseye maple with your ideal KTB finish.

Next GAS attack it will probably be something along those lines.

I thought a spalted top that continued up the fretboard would look amazing.

I've seen so many great pictures here, I just keep imagining more, probably impossible builds.
like, can I get a white Gambale?

Maybe I'll just do a CT324 in satin jet black, which would be very affordable.

Spalted maple is not available as a fretboard. Birdseye or flame is and you could get it in the baked look of you wanted.
Here’s my AE185-12 with untreated birdseye fretboard and spalted flamed maple top.

That was an alternate Idea. I've seen some sick palemoon here used for what looked like an eight string fretboard.

That's a beauty.

I have a thing for spalt, which is now possible to produce in the lab in a fraction of the time.
Not only that but I can produce it in weeks at home, I understand from a leading PHD at Oregon State.
I'm seriously considering setting up a test if I can get a local guitar builder to donate some wood.
