*Sigh*....well, it's done.

Postby GuitFiddle » Mon Jun 04, 2018 10:29 am

Order placed, with equal parts optimism, trepidation, and skepticism. This is pivotal. It will either be the finality of a hanging-on-by-a-thread 25 year relationship, or cautiously reopen the door to it. My expectations are reasonable but firm, hoping I can embrace it and not fire it back like a box of rattlesnakes and black widows.

The good news for Kiesel is that this is a simple build. No figured wood, solid color finish, nothing unusual or off-the-sheet, the type of thing they've been doing for 30 years without interruption, nothing new or challenging. I didn't even have to ring up the boys, just placed the order online. It's actually somewhat unlike anything I've ordered before. And really, I'm a pretty easy customer and reasonable guy.

Hoping for the best with fingers crossed. And now I'll promptly forget about it until the shipping notice hits my inbox since that's the best way to deal with the wait (yeah, I've done this WAY too many times before). 8)

Here's hoping it turns out well. Best of luck on the wait, and getting an email about it.

It's not a terrible story; just left me feeling forgotten at the time. It happens (I swear, I am literally invisible some days).

Don't forget I had a guitar that literally sat around Kiesel finished for almost a month, fully paid for, not getting shipped. I'm convinced the only reason I eventually got the thing, is that one of our eagle-eyed members here - probably spud - saw in on FB or something, and said "Hey, that sure looks like the same specs you ordered...." Finally talked to someone who said, oh yeah, it's ready to go out!

So I feels your pain....

Daaaaang. Yeah, mine wasn't quite as long, but not entirely dissimilar. Most people were getting their guitar in 5-6 weeks. Mine was 10. I had to keep calling, didn't get the calls returned the first few tries, and finally got an answer after prodding for a bit. My first order ever with them. They could've told me that Orville Redenbacher's death was being mourned, and I'd have been OK with it. Silence was not nearly so much fun.

all-standard, yes. but weird nonetheless. i sense a significant option mistake ahead on the build. :)

How is it weird? What kind of mistake could happen?

I think it will look pretty cool. My only reservation is wondering how visible the black logo will be on the British racing green... Not saying it's wrong, just a thought... Which is pointless to think about since you've already ordered it and there are no changes. Haha!

I wanted it to be subtle and not screaming....it will be visible, just understated. 8)

Hey mister, no throwing negative energy! I can only assume the part that strikes you as weird is the 5-piece mahogany neck with the standard alder body sides. I actually web-ordered a DC700 a number of years ago in a similar config and it turned out perfectly. Walnut/maple neck with alder sides and a CRM finish. If you held it just right in the light, you could see evidence of the lamination seams in the neck and the grain of the alder (it was a good thin finish). I'd still have that one if it wasn't a seven string.

My personal experience has been that if you stick to more 'boiler plate' builds - basically stuff you can throw together in the builder without talking to a human - your odds of getting what you want and expect is higher, and for me the actual build quality has been higher. Can't explain it, but that's been my experience. In-stocks and web builds have been pretty close to flawless for me, it's the more optioned/custom builds that have proved problematic for me.

Standard medium. I was very close to going with what they call regular frets, which actually measure basically the same as vintage Fender sized frets....but after looking at some profile pics even I got cold feet about them, they are pretty tiny things. So I erred on the side of caution.

BTW I'm going to come out and watch you guys play in Castle Rock. Should be a good time.

Yes I remember now, I would have a pic if Photobucket didn't crap out. :P

I hope your new build turns out just the way you want it!
