Carvin JB24 numbers ?

Postby Bryanmccorkle » Mon Aug 12, 2019 10:56 am

I just recently purchased a Carvin JB24. Is there any way to tell the year model, etc by the serial number? Serial number is 124886 Thx

Carvin/Kiesel's serial numbers aren't a code to be deciphered, like some manufacturers, or a car's VIN. They are, basically, assigned, more-or-less, sequentially (kind of...in batches, of sorts...).

If you called up Kiesel, they could likely pull up a newer serial number like this, and confirm all of specs and order/ship date.

Since it's branded as a Carvin, it's from somewhere between early 2015 when it was launched, to when they started branding them as Kiesel, which was I think was 2017. I might have that wrong...but the model was launched at Winter NAMM in January 2015.

I think basically the only options you can get on these are colors (which are pretty new and would all be Kiesel branded) or the Perpetual Burn bridge pickup (which would say Seymour Duncan on the bottom coil), and back in the day, your choice of frets. Otherwise, it's 25.5" scale length, ash body, maple neck/fretboard, Floyd, with either stainless or nickel frets (pretty easy to tell the difference). Not super sure on the pickups: if they have Torx screws (a little star-shaped thing) then it's the Lithiums, but otherwise I'm not sure. Maybe other Duncans?

You're thinking of the JB200C. The JB24 only came with these colorful Seymour Duncan pickups.

I think the only options are color, left-handed, straplocks...and I think that's it. You're right that there was likely a nickel fret option, though.
