Semi-hollow & hollow interior shots

Postby spudmunkey » Sat May 17, 2014 7:59 pm

Since it comes up fairly often, here is a collection of shots showing the interiors of some of Carvin's hollow/semi-hollow guitars. If there are any more, please post 'me and I'll add 'em to the post!

Now that's what I'm talking about, I wanted to see these before I got my SH60 but glad I went with it and now see the cut out is the same as the SH250 and that was one of my big questions no one seemed to be able to answer at the time so thank you I'm sure this will help many!

I've just replaced the HH1/HH2 image with a more correct one.

The image below is NOT the actual chambering of that model. The pictures would indicate the pickups are mounted over a hollow area, but they are mounted to a solid wood area.

This is one that used to be out there, too, but is not correct with the production model:

I know, me too. It has a whole bunch of narrow horizontal channels, right?

Edit: I just took a bunch of screenshots from a vid from Carvin on YouTube. I'll piece 'em together into one composite image later...

I wonder if they took it off because the design has changed?

NS1 image was added. I swear there was one on the NS1's product page, but it's not there any more. This was pieced together from screenshots of the NS1 Steve Oliver demo vid on Carvin's Youtube channel. Perhaps it was removed because the design changed?

Great idea to have all these pics on the same thread.

A lot more wood could be taken out from some of those models
Carvin guitars: AC375, Cobalt 250, Bolt-T.
Carvin amps: Legacy I w/Mesa 2X12 Rectifier speaker cab, AG100D.

Actually...not a whole lot more!

On the AC models, that "solid" area is hollow from the back...that's the control cavity.

Hf2? Well...that's pretty darn hollow. :)

The HH has solid areas under the pickups to eliminate feedback issues. Remember that this model has pretty rounded-off edges, so the walls have to be thicker.

The SB couldn't really, either. The forearm contour has to remain pretty solid so that the bent wood has enough "meat" to stay glued down, and to keep its smooth contour, and one battery compartment is between the bridge and the bridge pickup, and the second battery compartment is to the right.

The carved-top SHs? Not likely. That's pretty darn hollow.

Now...on the SH60/65/250/275? I agree, there. The walls seem extra thick, considering the top is flat. The area behind the bridge is hollow from behind for the battery compartment, though, and it seems like those two center blocks are probably for feedback reduction. :thnk: the walls do seem thick, though.

Ok, I think the previously-reported info was incorrect.

After seeing the shots of vinbow's "spaltnut" factory shots, it does look like these really are the right cutouts!

I'll update the list above shortly.

Here is the current cambering for the HH as previously confirmed with JK ..My "HH3's" have a completely solid center to acomadate the center pick up... changes the tone quite a bit.

Well. Dang...neither of them look right.

I actually took that screenshot from the vid for that other thread...but then it doesn't look right bases on the other factory shots.
