If I hadn't just bought my ideal 1 x 12 combo, I'd be all over this beast. Early Series III oak cab with the original EVM 12" monster in there...

Just saw this SH225 on eBay.
I've never seen or heard of one in this color.
Suppose it was a custom refinish?

Yeah, I'm trying to figure out the wood, but I'm guessing it's just stained maple, colored after the fact. I've seen some of the clear maple 150's with maple figure like that.

That bridge and stop are looking like post market. Carvin had their own TOM that was neither Gibby Nashville or ABR/vintage. And their stop was a top loader with slots. So the whole tail assembly is an add on I'm guessing.

Still very nice though!

That wood has a very mapley-yet-birchy look, and definitely looks like stain applied without a conditioner to even it out. To me, it definitely looks "after market". Not bad, but not something that would have come out of their factory.

I like it. It has an old-furniture kind of look that really works with the style of guitar.

It is cool looking.

And I have to keep reminding myself what I've learned recently.. before they retired the 225, and after the Schaller hard tail one piece loaded guitars, they offered the 225 with a traditional Tom bridge, with a traditional stop tail. The bridge is narrow with shorter travel, looks almost vintage.

Still different from the one the elf linked:

I've always been so charmed by that photo of the great Roy Clark playing one. 8)

Somewhere there's a photo of Alex Lifeson with one as well.

Also one of Alex playing through an XV212 out in the wilderness somewhere!

And that photo of Clark is the perfect rejoinder for those who think the M22's were made in the eighties for metal.

They were made in the seventies to be the Gibson humbucker killer, plain and simple. Designed to be as versatile as the electric guitar.

Every time I see one of those old wood-enclosed amps, it makes me want to make one for my V3M.

Looks like someone converted that one into a Bolt-On Neck. :?:
The Butt of the heel looks a little uneven in relation to the 24th fret, which looks like a 'do it yourself' job.
This makes it even more appropriate for this particular thread. How many bolt-on DC150's are out there? Very Unusual.
Or is this a model that I am unaware of?
Great looking piece of Maple.

All of them were bolt on until Mark Switched to doing the necks and switched to set neck in the late seventies. This is probably just before that...

is it just me, or do those Frets look like the most flat-topped Frets I've ever seen in my life?

They actually look like kalimba tangs.

Image

At first I thought when I saw it (that's a heavily used guitar, no doubt, but that's a rare model that I would have grabbed for that cheap price) I thought I was looking at fret wear... but I seriously doubt he ground down the frets so heavily on the low E and A up on the 24th fret. They do seem to be almost squared off on their crowns, up and down the entire neck, everywhere.

Hey Elf et al,
what year was Carvin selling (rebranding?) these pedals?

Image

I see you're (Elf) on a museum thread on the subject where you scanned a catalog (dead bucket link, sadly, so I couldn't see) so I figured you'd have a quicker answer.

Another thread here, viewtopic.php?t=41908

with a sense in 2014 that they stopped selling them around 2006 or so. Someone over on the FB club was asking me, and I just don't know. Those were the years I was completely not focused on Carvin at all.

I don't remember off the top of my head either. But I'll see if I can find out.

About as mapley as maple gets. Really shows the L6S roots of this 1978 DC150, right down to the headstock (along with the single cut CM's they were based on)

Wow, the neck joint on that thing is awesome :D I can imagine that thing's upper-fret access is incomparable.
