Pics of Royal Ebony with black dot inlays?

Postby maccayoung » Tue May 02, 2017 10:26 am

Hi All,

I could have sworn I saw photos of a Vader with a buckeye burl top, royal ebony fretboard and offset black dot inlays, but I can't seem to find it.

There's been some similar (amazing) builds pop up, but I'm particularly interested in the royal ebony offset black dot combo. I'm starting get ideas for a build, and I'm not sure if I want to go inlays or no inlays.

Does anyone have a link? Or maybe I'm just imagining things.

I did go for black dots on royal ebony. I loved the look of them on zebra wood - but that's to be used on another build!!
There's a certain degree of risk involved (Mike Jones was kind enough to have that conversation w/ me), but I'm hopeful I get one of the dozens of lighter pieces I keep on seeing.
You could have black dots on a very dark patch of board.

Then it's sort of a NIN ............ :D

You could also pay Jeff to pick a board especially for your build... Or maybe there's an option for a smaller up charge just to specify a "generally lighter" Royal ebony bored.

True.

I've done that in the past. It never really worked out for me. The extra dollar amount was never worth what I got.
In all fairness, I've also never paid the big bucks to get EXACTLY what I wanted.

Ive learned just to let it all just happen. My last two builds had no details, and the woods were killer.

Funny you should mention that!

It's the exact opposite of what I'd want if I were to go with black inlays. I'd want a dark royal ebony board with black inlays. So it's sort of like stealth inlays.

Thanks everyone!

In the end I decided to go with quite a different build than I first intended. It was originally going to be a VM8 subtle build with natural woods and stains. I ended up going the complete opposite direction, so it's now green dots instead of black on royal ebony! Here are the specs;

VM8
black limba body maple neck
plain maple top
chambered
racing green
satin matte finish
rear natural clear
royal ebony board
offset inlays
green acrylic inlays
stainless jumbo frets
gold logo

Now time for the wait!

This looks so awesome!
Also I just checked out your Seafoam V7 and it's SO WICKED! The raw tone top with a nice Swamp Ash body is simply delicious. 8)

Ya! I can't wait to see your VM8, it will be superb! You just can't go wrong with a nice healthy dose of KRG. :D
