NOGD Carvin 88" DC150 Pearl White

Postby dbone » Sun Jul 30, 2017 11:46 am

Picked up this lovely Pearl White Carvin DC150 lefty recently. Looks to be a 88-89 neck through with a Kahler trem and pearl white finish. When I get around to changing strings i'll figure out which pups are in there. Came with the standard and palm trem arms. She's in real nice shape for her years. My first electric which I still have is a early 80"s DC150 which is pretty beat up at this point so it was nice to find such a good looking/playing lefty from the twilight of the DC150 heyday.

WOW!... That thing IS clean. Congrats!!! The Pearl really stands out. Very cool.
Try some DR strings on that. The tuning stability is excellent, with the Kahler. Others will weigh in with their preferences as well...I'm sure. Elixir, GHS, etc. Enjoy.

That's awesome! I bought an '83 DC150 a few months ago and really like it! Great guitars.

Hey dbone, you're absolutely right, that surely is a neck through.

Congrats on that beast! It's one of the cleaner examples I've seen. That absolutely was a closet Queen and worth every penny of the price.

Thanks guys it certainly feels like new in my hands. It has some small wear marks but they are hard to see on pearl white unless your really looking for them.
The pickups sound very good both in clean and split as well as high gain. I personally really like the old school big 0-10 knobs on these you know right where you at. The Pearl white up the back of the neck with the ebony board and black headstock just looks really cool.

That's SO funny. I was going to post, "Eh, dood, I think the guy who sent you that axe didn't know anything about intonation," until I realized "DUH it's a lefty."

That's what a symmetrical double-cut will do to fool your eyes... :laughhard:

Those should be flip locks right behind a graphite nut. I have them (but removed them since locking the trem down to a hardtail with the new 2315) on mine.. same model and era (although mine is a set neck). They look like this:

A really unusual one popped on verb. It's got the early eighties/late 70's period TOM bridge with the "tunnel-less" stop tail piece. It's got the curly C vintage logo. Thus it's probably set neck as well.

It has all of the switching for phase and splitting that came from the CM130/40 - DC150/60 and were inherited by the 200/127 etc.
Image

BUT it's mono.

AND it has an active module.
Image

The module could have been added later. But that would have been an unusual custom request, to delete the stereo outputs, but maintain the complex switching. Typically if you wanted a mono guitar with that shape, you went with the DC100, but that didn't have all the phase and split switches. Unusual beast.

There's also a plain maple iteration of this unit for sale which is tempting the hell out of me. It's a beaut, only got one mini switch replaced, rest all original.
