CT3m and Sperzel Tuners

Postby Jsw » Tue Nov 28, 2017 4:41 pm

Hi guys,
My CT3m has Sperzel USA stamped locking tuners. I’m interested in putting in 19-1 tuners
The Kiesel black 3x3 look perfect. Does anyone know if they are straight swap? Ie no locating holes exposed or having making my own locating holes.

Thanks,
Jim

I’m sorry . :wall:

They are not a direct swap, per se.

Here's a thread about it. Pics of the end result on page 2 of the thread:

Yep, there's no way around having a small portion of the Sperzel's locating pin hole showing from under the edge of the Kiesel tuners. If the rear of the headstock is natural wood colored or tung oil a person could fill them and get real close to making them invisible with the right kind of putty. Painted on the other hand would require much more work to hide. Kiesel tuners use two small knubs on the back that require two shallow holes to be drilled. It's a little tedious to get them lined up so that the tuners are lined up correctly. I, too wish they were an easier retrofit.

I'll say this though, the Sperzels feel like junk to me after having used the newer Kiesel tuners.

I don’t mind the Sperzels I have but I’m bigger fan of 18-1 or so.
However, I won’t use anything that I can’t just drop in.

I think I saw a post of someone swapping those a while back. You'd have one hole visible on each tuner on the back of the headstock.
