Natural Alder

Postby chatbass » Sat Feb 17, 2018 2:52 pm

Need a favor folks. Considering getting a Kiesel bass in the natural (clear) alder finish. If you have a guitar or bass in this finish, feel free to post it here because it would help to see how it actually looks on a guitar. Thanks.

None of these are mine, but...

And for contrast, here's a similarly styled guitar to the one above, but in ash:

great tonewood. pleasant looking enough, albeit slighly boring. darker in color, than maple or ash, not as dark as mahogany.

my original music

Well played, slipping "tonewood" in there! (get it, I said "well played"). Ah, never mind. :D

Couple of older pics showing the Alder body wings on my LB75A.
The other woods are Maple and Walnut for comparison.

It does. That's a famous bass around here. GumbyNotPokey had to be hospitalized for incipient-flopping-in-involuntary-orgasm over that bass.

Why confused tho?

Didn't intend to derail this thread, and yes GnP is a fan of this just as I'm a fan of his Claro fretless beauty.
Here's a link to the original NBD from 2011. Hard to believe it's been nearly 7years already...

Also, a link to my 2017 Fretless X54 with Alder wings under Nightburst, in an attempt to re-rail things. :)

What is GnP on hiatus somewhere? He should have fired at least 2-3 rockets of Bass Love by this point. . . .

Seriously, thought maybe off with the red Cross doing volunteer work or something. Peace corps?

Oh, I get it now. Doc was expecting me to lavish praise on that stellar bass of John's (I did good on the pun, eh?). Well, I guess I feel bad somehow that I didn't. However, my admiration for that spectacular build is well known around here. Having been forced to swear off posting pics of "you-know-what" and obliging that for a few YEARS perhaps has diminished (another pun) my reflexive drooling/pants-filling/verbal gushing just a tad.

If anyone wants me to revert back to that sort of posting, just let me know. It would be fun to get back to. :)

John, I've never heard you describe her as an Anniversary build. Was the order done on that framework?

Nice puns as always, Brian!
No need to revert back to full on gushing unless you just really feel the deep thumping desire to do so. (More bass puns)

Yes it is technically an LB75AP build as that has a few standard options at a bit of a savings.
3 piece body, 5 piece neck, Flame Maple top and matching headstock, and rounded body edges.
I always thought the grain in the Alder body wings was slightly above average, but that could just be my personal bias.

Here's hoping the OP can get his focus back and share a fine build with us!!
