NGD! My Second CS6!!

Postby Doctor Doug » Fri Jun 15, 2018 8:57 pm

She showed up on Monday and it turned out exactly like I had hoped.
How does Kiesel build guitars in California that show up in Winnipeg perfectly in tune and set up? It's downright creepy!

No tummy-cut!

The limba came out exactly as I had hoped!

I know that this is ALWAYS what people say, but the pictures really don't do this thing justice.
The contrast between the maple and the black limba is absolutely stunning. The limba has a swirly chocolatey colour.
It's far darker in person than it looks in the pictures.

I was hesitant ordering limba because it varies so much and I didn't want to pay more to have them pick one out. I didn't need to. It's awesome.

Just like my previous one, it plays amazing and I already love it.

The pickups....what can I say..? The cleans on them are stellar. They also sound great when goosed a bit.
When the distortion is really cranked, the lead tones are awesome but I'm not thrilled with the riffing on the low end with high-gain. Unfortunately, that's where I spend 95% of my time. So I'm going to try out my Bareknuckle Rebel Yells in it.

I currently have some new pickup rings being made by the fretsonthenet.com guy. Until those show up, I'm going to throw an M22SD in the bridge because it's awesome.

I dig that a LOT. 8) 8)
Nicely done.
I hope those other pickups do what you need. Amazing guitar, though.

Thanks! If the pickups don't work, I still have an extra M22SD/N set so I have zero worries.

Your green denim is still my fav but this one's no slouch either. The black limba looks amazing and the transition of finishes between the body and the neck blends well and not as stark a contrast as we usually see. I'm not ordinarily a CS guy but these are really making me go home and rethink my life! Congrats and Happy NGD!!

I don't know whose Red Denim this is but it was posted on facebook a few months ago and just blows me away too. So well conceived!

That is awesome!
If I was doing another denim, it would be red.
Probably would have been just like this one except with an ebony board.

Those are both so gorgeous! Really really cool!
I'm way happy for you! :applause:

And thanks for the pickup review. They sound like they'd be perfect for the stuff I'm doing these days.

Someday.

Very nice, bro, and that you're so happy makes me very happy. I think I might like this one better than your first/green one, but I think that's owing to the interplay between that sweetly figured black limba against the maple top, and the huge gobs of SEXY inherent in the dividing line where the two meet at that gorgeous seam.

My only preferences would be a traditional teardrop burst instead of those perimeter bursts, I just think it sets off the carve and accents the shape--not only of the Kiesels but single cuts in general ( Lesters as well as things like the Hagstrom, Agile, Heritage, etc single cuts), preferences), but that's just my own boring preferences, and that is.. one.. hella.. pair... right there.

Interesting comments on the pickups.. so let me be sure I get your review right--

You weren't totally crazy about the bridge but you liked the neck.. and you weren't crazy about the low mids/lows. You flipped a 22SD into the bridge, but you're keeping the neck for now.

Was it that it lacked low end (if there's anything that the 22sd has it's gobs of low/low mids married to a screaming upper range, for a pulverizing end result when cranked.. and the N also has a huge low end and yet miraculously avoids the closed, muffled mud Gibsons are so famous for on the neck, even w the tone pot wide open.)? And the neck pickup is good? How is the definition on the neck when pushed?

Lastly, do you solo/riff mostly on the neck or on the bridge,?

Anyhow, SWEET SCORE! Enjoy that mean machine, brosius!

It's not that the pickups really lack low end. I just find the when I'm riffing with lots of gain it gets sort of 'whoofy'?
I liked the cleans and lead tones though. And I have no issue with the neck pickup.

I'm going to throw and M22SD in the bridge just until I get the pickup rings to try out the Rebel Yells.

My wife likes this one better than the green one as well. I am undecided.lol

One other thing that I forgot mention is that this is the loudest unplugged electric I own. Noodling around without an amp I was blown away by the volume of it.

Thanks. You guys are awesome! I just finished putting the M22 into the bridge. I'm taking her to band practice tonight to try the new pickup arrangement through my stage rig.
