NGD - DC700X Flamed Koa

Postby Doc_Shred » Thu Jun 21, 2018 5:25 pm

For me this was the most inevitable build ever!! My DC600X turned out so good I decided that I eventually had to have a 7 string version built. Well within a month of receiving it the stars aligned... Jeff did a Pick Your Top Tuesday which is hard to resist at the best of times but he had my all time favourite wood... flamed Koa. A 6A piece for the price of standard. How could I refuse?

So the almost complete guitar showed up in a walkthrough at the beginning of May and that's where we hit a bump. I'd specced the guitar with 7 string Beryllium but Chris had to break the news that they weren't ready with no ETA on the horizon. I didn't want to go with Lithiums again as although I like them I already have two guitars with them. In the end I settled on Dimarzio Illuminators as they have much more of a mid bias and warmer top end. That and I'm obviously a Petrucci fanboy

I got a custom order from Dimarzio to have some made with black poles rather than the standard silver ones. The pickups got to Chris on Monday, he gave them to the techs on Tuesday and the guitar was with me in the UK by the following Monday! How's that for service?

Anyway you don't wanna read this nonsense, you just want the eye candy! Needless to say it looks amazing, sounds epic and plays just how you'd expect!

Really glad I went for Summer Ash Treatment. It really brings out the figuring of the ash and gives such a warm look

Last but not least a picture of the pair - Ignis and Aquis!

Ho boy....that's a beauty. What a killer top! Koa! Congratulations and enjoy. That blue quilt is utterly insane.

Are those string saver saddles on Aquis? If yes, did they fit without modding?

Sweet guitar, man. 8) Love that koa.
That makes for a really gorgeous pair of axes, for sure. I dig it.

It looks like both of these guitars are equipped with the Piezo system, so these would be the saddles for that, from the factory... Not string saver saddles.

Those are two really sweet guitars you have there my friend.

Ash with a koa top. That's a unique combination, and not one that I've seen very often, and in any case if you did get any sonic input from the top I would think they'd blend quite nicely!

Those right there are two "legacy" guitars to pass down over the years to any young-uns you might have on deck. Enjoy those sweet thangs and congrats!

I think I would like to be buried with them, but that wouldn't be right. Soo nice.

Thanks for the kind words all, much appreciated. They are truly wonderful instruments and as you all know, they play every bit as good as they look. They also represent spectacular value for money in the UK. By way of comparison a used Musicman Majesty is around $400 - $500 more than this DC700X and a brand new Monarchy is just shy of DOUBLE the cost.

That brings my Kiesel family up to three now with my Vader. If I never buy another guitar then I'd still be a happy man. But let's face it.. that ain't gonna happen!

And yes quite right spudmunkey, both guitars feature the piezo system which sounds great.
