NBD - ZB6, meet "Amber", my second Zeus

Postby Catman10 » Sat Feb 16, 2019 10:42 am

Hi all. Thought I'd share pics of my second ZB6. I absolutely loved how my first came out (my first ZB6 - "Pinky"), that I wanted a companion to it. It too is chambered, but the woods, neck pickup, and bridge pickup placement are different. Sustain is good, but not quite as good as the first one. A little fuller low end with the SCP. Overall, still pleased with how it turned out.

Phenomenal! It's cool to read that it has its own tonal personality. Uncommonly gorgeous woods. Enjoy!

Sounds nice and full on the low-end. The two pickups blend nicely together. My first ZB6 has the single coil bridge pickup in the ‘60’s position, this one has it in the ‘70’s position, which I feared might be thin sounding when soloed but it’s still full and slightly “sharper”. Sustain is very good, but the first one has more. All in all it sounds like a P/J bass would with no surprises.

You can flip the radiused singles to effectively switch between 60's and 70's tone.

Yep.

inside the pickup covers, the radiused single coils are biased toward the edge of the covers. you can touch one of your look hex tools for the saddles to it, to confirm that the blade magnet is biased to the edge. Because of this, you can flip the pickups.

If you specify a 70's orientation, Kiesel doesn't actually change the route. They just build a pickup with the blade biased toward the bridge side and put a purple dot on the cover. So, you can flip the pickups and effectively switch tones.

When I had the second gen radiused single coild in my Icon, I liked it best with both pickups so that the blade was biased towards the neck.

I'm loving the fretboard! I'm a six-string bassist myself, and I've been gassing for one of these headless models, hopefully as a way to get a lighter-weight axe.
Main bass: LB76W. Also have an LB76 and BK40A.
Live rig: BX500 head into a pair of BRX10.2 cabs, oriented vertically.

Kiesel's headless models are most definitely lighter than their models with head-stocks. :woot:
