ZBM-7, Zeus #3

Postby Catman10 » Mon Aug 12, 2019 6:55 pm

It arrived in late march. I hesitated in posting anything about it because I wasn't sure I was going to keep it. I originally ordered it because Jeff said it could be tuned down to a low-F#. But after receiving it I discovered that "yes" you can tune it down that low, but it won't be usable. The headpiece isn't designed to accept any string thicker than a .135, which is a low-B. Actual low-F# strings range around .153 to .165. Not sure what Im going to do with it, I decided to tune it B-E-A-D-G-B-E and do more melodic and chordal things with it.

There's nothing too exotic with this one as far as woods go. Just a swamp ash body, 3-piece walnut/purple heart neck, and royal ebony fretboard. No RTF, bursts, or other finish options. Standard gloss finish and standard electronics. Unfortunately the board is only allowing this one pic.

Zeus #3 looks cool. I have a Vader VM8 that I really like. I am tuning it E-B-E-A-D-G-B-E and can get some great sounds out of it. The 8 has really taught me a lot and got me out of my 6 string ruts. Didn't know you could only post one picture. I am pretty sure I have posted more than that before. With so little going on in this forum I think they could allow several pictures. :-) Seems to be no end to the pictures on facebook but I rarely go there. Anyway, nice guitar.

It certainly is, “Spud”. Suffice it to say I will not be venturing into any more strings. 7 is enough for me!

Man that is nutz!

I have a Dingwall NG-2 (converted to NG-3) and I had to file the nut but I put a .190 in the "B" string slot and have a usable low E now. Its pretty epic. Also when the strings wear out I can keep them for towing a trailer if needed because that string is thick AF.
Kiesel's:
2017 DCM8, 2016 A7H

Other's:
Cheap Peavey Strat (1st axe ever), Ernie Ball JP13, 2018 Dingwall NG-3 5 string, 2017 Warwick RB Corvette 6 string

LOL yeah. Its pretty thick. But it works and makes a clear, audible, and usable low E an octave below standard E.
