2013 San Diego Bash.

Postby Raymeous » Wed May 01, 2013 12:16 pm

Hello fellow Carvinites.

I am happy to announce that I will be hosting a third Carvin Bash at my place again this year.

The last two (2010 and 2011) were on 4th of July weekends, but this year the 4th is in the middle of the week. We'll pick a weekend and go from there. Again if we hold it on a Sunday, folks like Flock, Mike, and possibly Jorge from Carvin might be able to show up (are you guys listening?).

I will be doing this like last time and move the gear to the garage. That way the non musician girlfriends/wives/honey's can chat and enjoy "tea and biscuits" by the pool in relative peace while we noodle around. For those that haven't been here before, these have been a lot of fun, with tons of food, sweet gear, fun jams and a whole lot of simple B.S.ing.

As before I will be providing (i.e. have set up) various equipment for people to try out from guitar amps, to a bass rig, and my Sonor drum kit. I have a new drummer friend I will likely be able to con into showing up as well.

If you're interested just post here, and we can fine tune the details as things get closer to the day of.

I can't wait to meet the new people and hang out with the folks that made the previous bashes fun.

I'd LOVE to attend!

July 3rd is our anniversary, so that might through a wrench in the plans for me. I've got family in So Cal, and usually visit in the summer when schedules work out.

Long story short, put me down for a definite maybe :)

Cool!

Yeah it's not going to be on the 4th this year as that's on a Thursday I think. Anyway I was looking aroung more like the 7th or 13th. I know Saturdays are usually better for most people but doing it on Sunday will allow for some Carvin and GC budddies to come over since they have to work Saturdays.

Oh and "Happy Anniversary!" a little early. There are a lot of good places to take your honey for an anniversary here in San Diego. Romantic dinners overlooking the ocean abound here. There's also a good one at the top of a tower downtown that overlooks the city and the harbor. Pricey but very nice.

BTW: Which part of PNW? I lived in Washington state for a few years.

HELLOOOOO CARVINITES!!!

I suppose it's time for the initial version of the "Gear List". As usual this is a list of the equipment I will be providing/have available to check out.

BASSES:
Carvin LB76 with dual HB's
Ibanez Ashula
Squier P-bass special

BASS AMPS:
Carvin BX1500/BRX10.4N
Fender Bassman 60 1x12"
Warwick 1x12"

DRUMS:
Sonor Force 3001 5pc with mix of cymbals

GUITARS:
Aria A/E cutaway
Brian Moore i813
Carvin Bolt+C
Carvin C66T (my avatar)
Casio MG510
Fender (sort of) Frankenstrat
Godin Freeway SA
Sigma acoustic (the one that started it all)

GUITAR AMPS:
Carvin AG100D
Carvin X100b into GT412
Johnson Millennium 150 2x12" combo
Line6 75w Spyder III

KEYBOARD:
Roland XP-80

RANDOM STUFF:
The Eleven Rack
ProTools 10/11
GarageBand
Rode NT2a condenser mic
Carvin CM68 dynamic mic
Shure SM57 dynamic mic
AKG K240 Studio Headphones
Sony 7506 Studio Headphones
Muse Research Receptor
Yamaha HS80 Powered Studio Monitors
...and more (believe it or not)

I'll need to see if I can round up a PA rig if anyone is inclined to sing or play the keys, but if somebody wants to do the singer/songwriter performance the AG100D can do that.

Mostly it just ends up being andless noodling jams, but those are fun too. :D

Man I got a lotta crap!

Thanks man! 8)

We are in the Olympia area. We were stationed at McChord AFB back in 2000-2004, so when it came time to retire, Washington was at the top of the list for places we wanted to settle. It was a pretty easy choice ;) I was raised in So. Cal, but the cost of living is waaaaaayy to high for us to return on our own (Uncle Sugar had us in Ventura, CA for about 5-years...).

If it's after the 4th I'm in. We'll be vacationing through that week, so the 13th would work out better for me, but put me down either way.

I'll bring my L3 + S2x12 along for people to try out too.

Cool! Come on down with whatever you feel like bringing.

Hairmacht,

Yes, please bring your goodies. It is a Carvin Bash, however othr brands of toys can play as well. =) As you may have noticed in the 2011 bash photos, we had a PRS show up, so it's all good.

StatocasterMike,
The 13th? Okay. I think that's the first request for a specific day, so we can go with that at this point. Glad to have you onboard.

This should be fun guys/gals

THIS JUST IN: NEW AND IMPROVED 2013 Carvin BASH! NOW RECORDING INTO PROTOOLS!!!

Yeah you heard that right, but don't panic yet.

The last few months have been busy for me in terms of building up my home studio, and home studio skills. I picked up a Presonus 1818VSL interface with 8 mic pre's, and I'm bumping up my PT8 to PT10/11 so I will be able to record us this year.

The idea would be to bring my iMac, new interface, and a fist full of mics down to the garage where we jammed last time. With 8 inputs I'm looking at 4 mics for the kit (kick, snare, overheads), 2 for the guitars, one for bass, and the last one for keys/vox, or 3rd guitar.

You may be asking "Why record it?" Why not? I need the practice anyway. I think it would be fun to record a bit of the jam sessions and post them here for those that couldn't make it. I know that could be scary for some, but we're among friends here and everyone knows that jamming is jamming; there will be ok moments, times when we fall on our faces, and some truly great moments. It could be a blast!

So what do you folks think about recording the jam sessions? :stir:

Ah, to be on the Left Coast instead of the Right Coast. I was fortunate to make one Bash, and that was the last Texas Bash, which was hosted by T-Bone BBQ in 2009 near Ft. Worth. Them Texas Carvin boys sure can get down on the rock 'n' blues. I lived in Texas then, so it was a no-brainer for me. Wish Cali wasn't so far from New Hampshire, 'cause I'd be there for sure.

Well if this whole recording idea goes through ...

Crap I have to rep the West Coast? Uh- oh.!

Juuust kidding. I think it will be fun, and if I can figure out how to post all it, then we SoCal kids can bless/curse you with our playing. Ha ha.

My new Carvin will be done around July 10 and I opted to go pick it up in SD this year so the gf and I can have a nice mini vacation. If this happens on the weekend either Sat the 13 or Sun the 14 I will most definitely be killing 2 birds with one awesome guitar!

I was wrong in my initial dates, as I thought that July 13th was a Sunday, but turns out it's a Saturday. In either case the two folks that have put in for a certain date have both opted for the same weekend so lets make it official.

Let's shoot for Sunday July 14th, so that our Carvin friends Mike Jones, and Flock can show up.

Glad to hear (or read rather) that there's some interest in this. Can't wait.

Not at the moment, no. I can probably scrounge one up if somebody wants to sing something.

Sorry about the delay in responding. I thought I had, but apparently I didn' actually post one. Old-timers must be kicking in.

Actually I was offering but, if there's no singers, no point! We can just keep and eye on the thread if something, or someone pops up.
