Oh man I just snagged an MTS3212 and about to get an MTS3200 half stack; this would be a great place to really crank those amps up!

Sweeeeeet. I the stack is awesome. The best part is that the MTS3200 is very affordable for being a tube head. They usually go for anywhere between 2-250 but I got mine for about 120 bucks. A steal!

$120 for the whole half stack? Head and cab?

If only! No I paid 120 for just the head, which is a steal considering the heads go for more than that. I do see Carvin 412 cabs on sale around LA for anywhere between 100-200 dollars though. I got my 412 flat cab for 2 bills and it had Celestion Vintage 30s in it.

SD Bash update #... whatever

It's been a while since I gave you kids an update so here it is. First, it's still happening. Second is that I have two drummer friends that I'm trying to convince that they need to be there. So far it's sounding like they'll both be there. Yay!

FOOD: (Keeping it simple)
Beer Brats and the trimmings
Potato Salad
Party platter or two (or three...)
Chips
Soda, beer, and water. Maybe some OJ.

You don't have to bring anything, unless you have something specific you want to bring. The grill is available for anyone that wants to cook something up. We'll be glad to eat it for you.

RECORDING: I'll be using the following to try and capture our jams sessions

iMac
Presonus 1818vsl interface (8 XLR inputs)
Pair of monitors (not sure which set I want to drag down)

AKG D112 (kick drum)
Shure SM57 (snare)
MXL 840 x2 (L & R Overheads)

Other mics available:

Carvin CM68 dynamic
Audix F10 x3
Audix F12
Rode NT2a (Room mic maybe?)
MXL 993 x2

I am seriously considering picking up the 3-pack of Carvin M67's and a few more stands to handle the guitar cabinets. Even though they're there, I don't think the F10s freq range would be the best compliment for the guitar cabs. Bass could make use of the F12 or a simple direct out, and with 4 kit mics, 3 guitar mics, and 1 bass, the 8 tracks are full. =*(

This whole jam thing will be happening in my drywalled garage with concrete floor so the acoustics are going to suck, but hopefully with some good mic placement and a few area rugs, I can minimize the reflections enough to at least capture the vibe so that I can attempt to "fix it in the mix" and make it pretty enough to post here for our Carvin BBS family to enjoy.

Anyway, as you know the general idea is just to have fun hanging out with like minded Carvinites.

SD Bash update #whatever +1

So I went and did it. I picked up the 3-pack of Carvin M67 (think Shure Beta 57 clone)mics with boom stands (thanks Flock).

So now theoretically I can do:

AKG D112 or Audix F12 on the kick drum
Shure SM57on the snare
A pair of MXL 840's for overheads

I can then use the remaining 4 inputs for the BX1500 DI, X100B w/ mic or DI, Johnson Millennium w/mic or DI and one more for whatever else shows up. Using the DI's would be the cleanest signal but I think the mic'd set up would be easier to transfer to the other amps that show up. Besides I just bought a fist full of mics.

Hey, I just bought a bunch of mics too!

Let me know Ray if you run out of channels, I could bring a bigger board if you need it.

So there's guitars, drums, ...

Sure, DI's are the clean signal but, who wants THAT!

Yay! Sounds like a lot of fun! I'm still probably going to be showing up but I am told that my hand surgery should be happening around this time, either before or after so I may or may not be able to participate in the jam sessions.

I'll be using the Presonus 1818vsl single space rack mount interface for it's 8 XLR inputs.

I do have an older, non-usb, mixer from Beringer that I could be using if I needed to add any extra tracks. The thing is that I want to record each instrument on it's own track so I can at least have a chance at making a presetable mix. I'm not looking at rerecording stuff or anything like that, merely balancing levels, or gating out some extra bleed or noise. Essentially I want to be able to present something worth listening to to our forum family.

Hey folks,

In just a few days we'll be making noise at my place. The last two were a lot of fun and this one should be as well. Lot's a food, lot's of jammin' and just a good day to be alive.

I've sent PM's to those that responded to this email already with my address and such. If you're interested just send me a PM and I'll send you the info as well.

As far as the gear and jammin' goes, I have a friend that will be bringing his PA, so we should be able to handle vocals and keys this year as well as the guitars, drums, bass, etc...

Time for me to get busy and get the house/garage (jam area) ready along with picking up drinks and munchies. Oh that reminds me. If you are showing up please let me know how many you're intending to bring so that I can make sure I have enough for everyone.

Tick - tock- tick - tock... no stress  Ha ha!

Sorry I couldn't make it guys! I started a new job so that I can buy more Carvins and I couldn't take the time off!

I'll let you guys know the next time I go down to SD, I still have to go and pick up my guitars that I left with Albert for repair so maybe we can have an impromptu gathering at the store!

Bummed that I couldn't make it. We're bringing in a new bass player and ran over by a couple hours. Hope you all had fun and am looking forward to hearing some of the jams.

So, did this bash happen or not? Was it recorded?

Do cowbell rules apply to gatherings?

Sorry Catman

Yes the bash happened, but only sort of. I only had 6 people show up (Thanks Flock for being there) and half of them had other things going on that day (birthday parties and whatnot) so it quickly disolved about two to three hours after it started. :?

As far as the recordings... there were a few. I have to admit I wasn't 100% set up yet when people arrived (all at the same time!) so that limited what I was able to get recorded. Unfortunately, it seemed like everytime I hit the record button, I captured more talking than jamming. That was partially due to the who had to leave when, kind of thing. Oh well I guess that's how it goes sometimes. :|

Don't get me wrong we did have some fun, enjoyed some good food, and people had a good time. It was just really short.

Quite alright. "Raymeous". I completely understand. Planning something of this magnitude is tough to do with so many involved. Here's hoping for a better one in '14!!
