Thinking about a kit, Vintage vs Wilkinson

Postby brento73 » Thu Jan 11, 2018 7:39 am

As the title says, I'm thinking(again) about getting a kit, in part because I just finished renovating a duplex, and sort of enjoyed the wood working parts :) The plumbing sucked, FYI ;)

So, what are the pros/cons of the vintage style bridge versus the Wilkinson? I'd go with locking tuners either way.

I've got the Vintage trem on my BoltV. It works great, but it's downward-only. I only use the trem for the occasional chord warble.

For tuning, first I wiggle the trem down and back up a few times. Then, tune after that. It stays in tune until the next day.

Howdy! I've got the wilky on my Bolt, which was a kit. It works either way, though I don't use it much. It seems to keep in tune pretty well, though I'm just playing around at home & not playing actively, like gigs and such.
If I did it again, I'd probably get a hardtail(TOM) or whatever. That just reflects my style better, and not too much on the gear.
I hope you end up liking whatever you end up with. :)

Thanks for the replies. I may just get a fixed bridge, since I rarely used the vibrato systems on previous guitars. I'm thinking walnut body and neck, and use a simple tung-oil type finish. Not 100% sure, though.
