Does Carvin make all of Stewart MacDonald's stuff?

Postby kh10string » Sat Dec 15, 2012 6:36 am

I don't know if this is the right place to ask this. Or if there is an appropriate place.

I know that Carvin makes the neck thru neck that StewMac sells. Do they make the rest of the bodies that StewMac sells?

How do you know that Carvin makes Stew Mac's guitar necks? I've NEVER heard of anyone stating that. I'm curious as to where you got that information I don't believe they make the bodies either as Stew Mac's bodies are cut to Fender's specs, and the "Bolt" bodies that Carvin sells have totally different specifications. I'm also fairly confident that the specifications on Stu Mac's necks are different than the specs on the Stew Mac necks.

I know for a fact that the standard Carvin Bolt neck is a tad wider than the Neck Pocket on a standard Telecaster Body built to Fender's specs.

I've heard it said that the thru neck one is made by Carvin.

It seems to be common knowledge in some of the Musical Instrument Makers Forums on the net

If there is any truth to that neck-thru statement, it grossly overstates the thread title "all of Stew Mac's stuff"

The thread's title was a question.

"Does Carvin make all of Stewart MacDonald's stuff?" :?:

I asked that question seeking an answer. That's all.

I wasn't trying to beat up in you. Sorry if it came off that way. The answer is no. Though there may be something to Stew Mac sourcing Carvin for those neck thrus, but that's never been confirmed here. And certainly Stew Mac's parts list is a mile longer than what Carvin makes.

They are very close in design, but the stewmac neck has a headstock angle of 11 degrees and the Carvin NT6 is 8.25 degrees. There are a few other small differences like the neck thinkness at the first fret. the stewmac also supposedly has two neck reinforcement bars that i dont think the Carvin will have, it doesnt mention what the bars are made from. I doubt graphite at that price. i would guess it may be a copy, with the Carvin specs so readily available on this site i am sure a factory in korea or somewhere can stay busy.

the funny thing is that you can buy the Carvin version for 20 bucks cheaper directly from Carvin!

They're similar, but not the same. Stew mac makes some great stuff though.

All because the specs are similar; but, not the same - does not mean that Carvin does not produce them for Stew Mac.

Really, the only peeps that are gonna know the answer to this - for sure - are the fine folks at Carvin - and I truly don't see them admitting to this, simply because they don't have any obligation to.

I guess it's entirely possible that Carvin could get a license to produce replacement Strat bodies for Stew Mac.....but, IMO that is probably not the case. In fact, I thought they were made by All Parts (maybe Carvin makes them for All Parts - HA!)
