Need help with Bolt kit

Postby lefty6string » Mon Jan 28, 2013 3:14 pm

After a very long wait, I have painted my Bolt + kit that I bought in 2010!

Now I am trying to put it together. The instructions reference a pickgaurd with I do not have. Are there better instrucitons out there? I have many questions....forgive if they are stupid.

One of the first is that I am using EVH Wolfgand pickups. For starters does it matter which springs I use to mount with? The ones that came with the Carvins PUs are smaller. I am guess it does not matter.

Another question...WHen mounting the pots (volume and tone), do I have to remove the the nut and washer and use them to mount with? Would think I might have issues with the foil shorting out the pots?

I'm good on the questions above. But really need help with wiring. Using the EVH pups, which are hums, and 2 wire, I need to know where the red and black leads go.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks.

If you go to the seymore duncan site, they have lots of schematics you can look at.

Not that strange. Just means the two coils are wired together internally, and the pickup can't be coil-tapped .. humbucker mode only.

Still need help. Not much luck online. It's a 5 way switch too!

Assuming an H-H setup....

With a 5-way and no tap wires, you're not going to get the Bolt+ setup. I think the best you'll get is the middle 3 pos being B+N combined.
You'll need to know which is hot (typically R) and which is gnd (B).

Look at the TL60-33 diag here. I think that might do it, actually. R -> switch lugs. B -> gnd points. Ignore the tap sw and wires.

If its an HSH setup -
Start here.

Heres a diag of the 5-way switch in general.

What do you mean by this?

Am I better off getting a 3 way switch?

He means that with only 2 pickups there are only 3 possible combinations .. bridge, neck, or bridge+neck. So you only need a 3-position switch to get all the possibilities. Since the pickups only have two wires, they can't be tapped, so you can't create any additional wiring possibilties there ..

If you want to use the 5-position switch, the most likely wiring would be

Position 1 - bridge
Positions 2,3,4 bridge + neck
Position 5 - neck
