New Project?

Postby skully13a » Tue Oct 24, 2017 6:56 pm

I'm thinking of getting a neck-thru blank. I want to make a "Skullysplorer".
I LOVE the Explorer shape. I dunno, I just dig it.
Just wondering what You think I should try with the headstock.
Thanks, Guys. :)

That headstock is a significant part of the look, so I think making one that's similar without necessarily being an exact copy is the best approach. Going for exact and not quite getting there can look worse than purposefully being similar but with unique twists. Either way, I'd practice on a blank chunk of wood before I even touched the real neck blank.

Keep up posted on your progress if you get this rolling!

Basically this is exactly my opinion as well.

Right on. That's what I've been thinking, anyway. It's a cool look.
I thought that an H33 pointy would work AND not detract from the look, but I think every time I look at it, I'd be disappointed in myself for not at least making the effort. The skills are there, It's just about applying them.

I think the new pointy in-line reverse stock would look smashing on an Explorer, or the angled 80s one. There's plenty of Explorers around with banana headstocks, why make another?
