Yeah the headstock is definitely a Gibson Les Paul Custom (in the video), it has the binding on the headstock and the diamond inlay unique to the Custom.. also the binding on the back of the body as well as the top.

But I can see why it reminds you of the vintage Swedes and Supers because the cutaway is a little more rounded... A little more in the Blues Bird direction.

It's definitely a unique Les Paul, for that period anyway.

Since we're on the subject of Hag Swedes and uniquely modified guitars, here's Daryl Stuermer playing a 70's Swede, and for one reason or another had unbolted the neck and put a new neck in. Great perf w Jean Luc Ponty, Alan Zavod, Steve Smith, and Zappa's bass player Tom Fowler on an Alembic. Stuermer also from time to time played Swedes with Genesis.

Cool short, tight, fusiony piece called Tarantula.

With all apologies to Jan, his last name Akkerman, and I'm pretty sure he was playing a Framus.

Not in that television gig, that elf shared. That is not that guitar, it's this one which has a Gibson headstock with the diamond inlay. Nowhere near that sharp of a cutaway.

For me, the big giveaway is the angled end of the fretboard. I don't know how they various versions were named, but I've always seen that on "Les Paul Personal" model guitars. In the article I linked, they mentioned they it was re-topped and given the new electronics, so that would be why the pickups don't match...but most of those "Personal" models have the iconic headstock inlay.

It began life as one of these.

And before this thread I'd never heard of the Gibson Personal.
Thanks for the education, guys!

Neither have I. The Naked Ape axe is either a Recording or a Professional.

note: Well you learn something new everyday. The Personal was an upgraded version of the Recording, which I believe was really called the Professional. But I think they also called it the Personal for a stretch?

Would be bizarre on that guitar since it's routed for buckers, not the Recording/Prof singles, and it has a maple top, which the Recording/Prof didn't have, at least not as far as I've seen. In any case, it's a wild geet! (But it's deffo not a Framus, that's a Gibby)

Here is a page from a book I have. (remember books?) Lol.
You can see the Original 'Recording' with 335 type Block Inlays.
The 'Profesional' which has the LP Standard style inlays.
The 'Personel', which has the LP Custom style Inlays and Headstock.

Maybe they should make some Jan Akkerman style Re-Issues. I like it!

Yeah, and I posted the wrong Framus. There is one that looks like this.

I agree though it is a Gibby but a slightly basterdized one. What threw me was the angled neck at the neck pup with a wrap around bridge, slightly thicker body, and the overly rounded heel cut. I believe Jan got him a Custom Custom.

Sorry, Spud, I missed it. Explains a lot.

His seek for a more treble-ly sound might be why I could always get so close to that song's tone by using both pups out of phase on my ole 200T back in the day. I still have the ole girl but it badly needs some TLC and I already have 3 guitars scattered at the moment. Should get my Epi LP back together tonight though. Dying to get my TL60 back together with the new Pearly Gates Jazz II addition. I finally lost a S22 so thought I would try something different. On that nearly 14 lb hunka hunka burnin walnut, I suspect this combo is going to work REALLY well.

Great FIND, dude! You must have dug for that one.

Wild to go putting a maple top with all those adjustments, but hey, he obviously dug the end result. That's about the most customized Lester I've seen, and makes Marley's famous LP Special look bone stock. I thought T Rex's Standard with the steamed-in Custom neck was customized.

Frickin swift:

The real shizzle:

European made Hagstrom Northen Series Super Swede, in excellent condition. These don’t come up for sale very often, their owners keep them, and the two biggest reasons are these....the pickups are by the Swedish pickup guru Lundgren, and let me tell you that they ring with the sweetest harmonics as you’re playing, it sounds to me like the holy grail “ghost” note in there that old original PAF’s are known for. Pure syrupy, yet articulate goodness.

Thw second reason is the scale. At 25.5”, for people accustomed to Fender scales but want a les Paul, this is the ticket..

Steal at 1500 in that condition.

Get it Get it Get it Get it!!!!

They're so rare--these Northens never ever hit the market.. not the Northen Supers anyhow. The Northen Standard Swede with 24.75 scale (in black red or white), yes, occasionally, but not the long scale Supers with that amazing Tele like coil splitting. This is the first time I've seen one hit the USA market. I've seen them occasionally in Europe since I've bought my flamey proto.

This one looks a bitlike mine, albeit a lot less figuring (and mine was made before they finalized that block inlay on the headstock), and the neck binding isn't flamed maple like mine. But that thing looks immaculate and completely original.

So go on! Get yerself in trouble! I played one of those Custom Shop Gibson Long Scale Les Pauls.. and lemme tellsya. There is just no comparison. These things eat the 25.5 LP's alive.

Cute puppy! That thing is tiny! How are thangz otherwise? How is the SS P90 and the Godins? What do you have in that koa top CS? The Duncans?

Celebrate the crunch chords!

Yeah, we lost our Xena the Warrior Princess back in April after almost 17 years. We have both reached an age where another pup may well outlive us now so there was this whole . . . why now thing? But even Terri finds herself still instinctively reaching out to give Xena a morsel when we are grazing on something watching a movie or whatever, as do I. And our Boxer Treto still gets a whiff of her off something in the house now and then and will spend 30 minutes trying to find her. So, we are going one more round purely on the fact that the Toy Manchester Terrier network through AKC has an 800 number either or both of us can call should one of us croak or are otherwise unable to take care of her properly and they will literally come get her and find her a good home. Kinda cool.

Anyhoo, lovely Northern but struggling to play all the ones I have. Still have the SD SNSs in my CS6. Finally got my Epi LP back together with the SD WholeLottaHBs (round one) AND better POTs and CAPs (round two) which now rivals my R9 so I no longer have to worry about damaging it when I'm in a Zeppelin or similar kinda mood. And, I need to get the SD Pearly Gates / Jazz combo in my TL60 since I finally lost a S22 a while back and just wanted a change. Got both of my Lifesons ready to sell but now don't want to sell them. Really need to though. My Godin LGXT is a great guitar but I never have used the Synth capability which is why I bought it. The Godin Montreal with those mellow articulate TV Jones pups at 6 lbs remains my late night couch noodler. I'm a bit bummed with the Godin Core with the SD P90s . . . after getting my P90 ears forever ruined by the Spiced Ps in my Hag . . .

Hey, you ought to hear my Gilmour stuff with that guitar! It's quite good. Oh, I've still got the Beck Strat too but I'm liking all my Gilmour stuff better through those Spiced P90s on that same scale. Yeah, I know, record something.

But, I think you already heard my recording quality "what I can do in 5 minutes through my little Blackstar MicroCore into my Iphone a couple of feet away". Um, not great. Sitting anything up to record something I am actually proud of is just WAY more trouble than my health will cooperate with any more. Lucky to just play most days. If you have a simple killer tone recording method on the cheap . . . I'm all ears!

Beyond that, I still haven't died yet . . . you?

I'm good man, I'm happy to see you're still hanging in there. I haven't died either, though I did have an underactive thyroid diagnosed two months ago.. and putting me on the standard medication to correct those levels has made a gigantic difference. Lot's more energy, it's amazing what a huge effect correcting your thyroid will have on your body.

I was upstate just past Woodstock a week or two ago knocking out some drum tracks in an old turn of the (19th-20th) century barn where he has a vintage Gretsch kit set up. It's for a piece I'm finishing up. Barely had to add any reverb, so much natural verb with great side and rear reflections were coming thru. I'm doing some final overdubs and mastering at the moment on it.
