Deciding on a new guitar

Postby Brock » Fri Oct 06, 2017 9:06 am

I'm looking for a new (used) guitar

But first, an explanation. My wife and I have 3 boys and their middle names are guitar related.
Marshall - self explanatory
Carson - for Carvin
Paul - for Les Paul

My wife is pregnant and last week we found out it's a girl. So to keep the guitar tradition alive her middle name is going to be Paisley. Named after Fender's Paisley Telecaster. I "need" a new guitar in her honor so It's going to be one of these:

I know they're not for everyone but I really like them both. Hopefully I'll have one soon. The black ones are a little bit harder to find but they're also a few hundred dollars cheaper.

I think I like the *idea* of a pink paisley tele...but not that particular one. I think it's the color of the paisley's background, combined with the burst aorund the lipstick pickup. I don't know...it's just not grabbing me.

I kinda dig the black one, though.

However, neither of them have paisly pickguard, bridge or control plate.

Now that paisley is crazy. I like it.

I really like the pink because it more closely matches the original but I'll probably go with the black one. I'd get rid of the black pickguard, though. Either leave it off or get a clear one.

How about Daisy? You can get a Daisy Rock guitar :P

Or Taylor. Lots of obvious choices in that case.

Kelly, after the Jackson Kelly. (I don't think Warrior would be a good name, after the Jackson Warrior)

Of course, with the new age comes new styles of names. Perhaps you can choose something like AL3000 (Agile model)

That should be a boy's name for going through a bris.

I'm thinking that "MH-401NT LH" rolls off the tongue pretty well. It's an ESP model.

Spud and UnexplodedCow hahahahahaha I'll show those suggestions to my wife.

My first choice was Pearly Gates but I got shot down pretty fast.

Shorten it to Pearl and it might work. I went through a ton of names about a year ago, waiting for the arrival of my son. Ultimately, he was named after myself and my dad. His initials are E.T...so I am totally going to spring the "phone home," thing on him when he's an ornery teen.

I found a black one on Reverb and the seller accepted my offer. Hopefully it will ship out soon and be here within a week. I'll post pics as soon as it arrives.

Don't you want to name her something like Destroyer or Hellraiser or Warlock or Death Angel?
Nobody would mess with her!

Now if we were naming after amp models, we'd have some interesting names.

Such as: Bassman. Or if you have twins, name one Twin, the other Reverb. 5150 doesn't work too well. Of course, the garnish to all this would be the Randall Satan (seriously). I wonder...has anyone actually named their child that?

There's also "Mark" for amp names, although that's kinda boring.

:hijack:
Semi-relevant baby-name threadjack.

"Cloud" is a family name - a great-great-uncle, Daniel Cloud, was one of the Alamo defenders - so when my Much Better Half was pregnant, I suggested Cloud as a name for our daughter.

MBH: Cloud? That's such a hippie name. Might as well call her Flower.
Me: I'm cool with that.
MBH: (horrified) No! I was being sarcastic!

So we spent the next hour or so running through assorted flower names - Daisy, Violet, Rose, etc. - and finally settled on Jasmine, thinking that would at least be hard to make a goofy nickname out of. Of course, after she was born, it was immediately shortened to Jazz, or Jazzy. Which is actually a cool nickname.

But four years after she was born, Disney's ALADDIN came out, and suddenly there was all sorts of swag with her name on it, so we had that going for us, which was nice.

I missed out getting one from eBay...TWICE!

First time it was listed I put a bid in for $405 and it was mine. I placed the bid about 15 seconds before it ended but didn't put in the highest amount I was willing to go. I figured no one will swoop in the last few seconds. About 2 seconds left someone outbid me and it went for $410. I was heartbroken.

Several days later I see it show up on eBay again. I can only assume the winner didn't/couldn't pay so it was relisted. I was going to get it this time. Again - about 15 seconds left I put in my bid. It was mine at $420. This time I did put in the highest I was willing to go - $475. A few seconds left and someone outbid me again. :wall: It sold for $500.
