NGD - Black Paisley Telecaster

Postby Brock » Sun Nov 05, 2017 5:47 pm

My Paisley Telecaster arrived Friday. Here are a few pictures.

This is my first telecaster and I am very pleased with it. It's much better looking than I thought it would be. The paisley print it black/grey/silver but it has a bit of green when see it from a certain angle. I tried to capture that in one of the pictures.

Surprisingly both pickups are very full sounding. It's not "twangy" like I thought it would be. There's considerable low end growl with the gain turned up. Sounds good.

The neck is thicker than I normally like but it's comfortable. Plus it's has a 9.5" radius. I prefer my CS6 with a thin neck and 12" radius but the Tele isn't unbearable. Just take some getting used to.

I haven't had a chance to play it a lot. only a few times. It did need a set up. The strings were heavier than I like so I changed them. The neck was slightly bowed but straightened up with no problem. And of course the intonation was out a bit. Plays perfect now.

The only disappointment are the tuners. I'm replacing them ASAP. They feel like they're going to fall apart and there's nothing smooth about them. I'll probably look or a set of locking tuners.

I'll add more of my thoughts later. I'm not good at sitting down and typing what's going through my head :)

I'm happy with it.

*edited to add* The case it came with is also fantastic. Looks like one that would come with an American standard.

I'm not much of a Tele guy normally, but I really like it!

I'm not much into the Paisley finish, nor burl for that matter, but this is one of those odd cases where this looks good because it looks almost like a burl top. 8)

Thanks for the comments.

I think this is a guitar you either like or don't like. As I mentioned in another thread I bought this for my soon-to-be-born daughter's middle name - Paisley. This is my 4th child and we wanted to continue with the guitar related middle name.

Anyway, the more I started looking at the paisley Tele, the more I started to like them. I really like the pink because it's what the original was but I (and mostly my wife) couldn't see myself playing it out in public.

I'm taking it to band practice this Thursday so I'll get a better idea of what it can do.

Pretty sweet. I haven't had the guts to go paisley myself, but that sure is a looker - the colors remind me of the Sambora run of paisley Strats Fender did back in the 90s.

Congrats!

I've never considered myself a Tele guy. Nothing about them really appealed to me. I only started getting interested because of a middle name - you can read the previous posts.

Well, I had band practice tonight and I played my new Telecaster. I feel like I discovered a gold mine. I love this guitar! I never imagined it would be such a tone monster. Every note, chord, whatever...is so full sounding. This is probably one of the best sounding guitars I ever played. It does it all! It does a bright, rich clean. It does a warm blues. It does a classic overdrive rock. It's has tons of sustain. It's way more than I ever expected.

My CS6 is going to have some serious competition.

Well, that's the beauty of a Telecaster that probably hundreds of thousands of Gibson players have discovered--that when it comes to meshing into a band context, you can't beat the long scale and you can't beat single coils. They are like the front end of a Japanese Tanto knife--they can pop right through any surface no matter how thick. All of your chords and single note lines will ride over the top of the band and sit right where they're supposed to be, even on the neck pickup.

Driven properly, a Tele can sound thick and full and clobbery--just listen to Page on something like Dazed and Confused. For those late to the party... yes, that's a Tele, NOT a Les Paul. I was all set to buy a Tele then I started popping the tone pots out on my Northen Super Swede to split the buckers (25.5" Fender scale, specially made Alnico II Lundgren humbuckers) and really explored that side of the guitar... and realized I had an invisible Telecaster. I HAVE to put up some samples of that beauty.

Anyhow enough of that-- I was one of the big boosters of that black paisley Tele, and I LOVE the greenish hue that it has!.. Is that a Mex or USA made?

Either way congrats on the coming baby and the axe!

Doc - what you said about the tone is so true.

The greenish hue is a nice touch. It's subtle but adds a lot of character. It's a Mexican made. Years ago I had a Mexican Strat and it was fantastic. The quality and feel matched any American standard, in my humble opinion.

Thanks for the comments and I'd to hear some samples of your "invisible tele".

Adele Paisley is here, born February 16. I may be a bit biased but she looks much better than my paisley Telecaster.

One day soon I need to lay her beside the Tele for some pictures.

Congrats on the new born shredder (of diapers)!

Seriously, congratulations and best of luck. A picture would be cool too.

Yea, I think so too. Girls are funny. I have three boys and I love them very much but as soon as held Adele, my heart melted.
