Soon enough. Looking like I'll be taking it home right at the end of the month.

And MAN O MAN I haven't been this excited about new gear since I was a teenager.

Thanks-- the demos on the first page are equally mind blowing. Countdown is almost over.

Ed King from Lynyrd Skynyrd (wrote Sweet Home Alabama) says it's the best amp he's ever played.

I am excited for you.

Funny how tastes are so different. And you and I are so far apart. I do not think either is right. Just different. Although I can see why you like it, it does nothing for me. Our tastes in guitars is also ten miles apart. What I find cool is both of us can find stuff out there that make us happy. The diversity of this instrument is incredible. Almost any desire can be met.

I truly hope this is everything you want. Can't wait till you get it. You have been drooling for a while. Amp is done, now your next guitar!

Well, thanks!

I really think our clashes (which haven't happened in a long while) have been more those of personality than gear. Of all the guitars that I see you post up here, I pretty much have liked them all. (Although I'm not an erg player and I think you've been buying those lately). . But your amps, your Carvin Guitars (at least the ones I've seen) look sweet to me. . . some epic quilted maple tops in there!

Not much a fan of the lithiums but I think we now share that.

As for the amp, it's just an extremely pure compendium of Marshall/Celestion, from Plexi power tube distortion to way too much 12AX overdrive/90's. But perhaps if you're a Mesa Rec (in which case low wattage might be an issue) or maybe a Fender side guy, you'd choose something else for the lower wattage end of things.

But yessir man, I haven't been this psyched for a piece of gear in a long time.

That tone at about 2:50 in that sample is the sort of thing that my previous experience had lead me to believe that the low-wattage tube amps just couldn't do. My experience with Tiny Terrors and the like made me think that you just couldn't get a bold punchy yet tight low-end like that without stepping up to a 100 watt head.

Holy crap. That's unbelievable. Someone at Carr is a freakin' alchemist.

I sure hope the Carr lives up to your expectations, Doc. I haven't hear a tone from it that I didn't like.

Since it's a bit above my budget, however, I've narrowed down my search for a small combo to a Fender '65 Princeton Reverb for it's classic clean tones. Sweetwater sells a custom model with a 12" Eminence Cannabis Rex that should give it a bit more bottom end. (I prefer it over the '68 Princeton.)

We are all waiting for the big day and your first selfie & sound clip!

Sweet! I'm a huge fan of those ivy league amps right down to the little Harvard. Is that a genuine 60's vintage w a speaker mod or a reissue? Either way, those things have clean tone that's pure poetry.

I'm told....Benson Amps in Portland Oregon, is coming out with a Ryan Adams inspired or endorsed amp called the 'Sorcerer'.
Normally he (Ryan Adams) will only play through Vintage Princeton Reverbs.....I thought.
Unfortunately, judging by the prices of their other amps, one could buy a Pre-CBS Princeton Reverb. .......Or a Carr.

There must be something naturally residing in the water down in North Carolina. Between Swart's masterpieces coming out of Wilmington, and Steve Carr just crushing it out of Pittsboro, they're become the go to state for compact but big sounding all tube amplification, (stable) genius boss level. The Carolina pine makes for some killer cabinets. Pure American handmade.

ZZ Top gotta come out with a revision of their classic called "Tube State Boogie (not Mesa)"

That could be. It seems like he vast majority of high-ish quality wood-framed upholstered furniture made in the US comes from around High Point, NC, too. It seems like whatever high quality chair or sofa isn't made in Europe, comes from NC.

Crafts people who seem to take pride in their work.

Head further north into the DC/Baltomore area, and it's a whole 'nother kettle of fish. :naughty:

This thing doesn't seem to have a bad tone in it. That is such authentic Strat/Super Lead tone:

It cracked me up when the guy said "12 watts" and the other replied "What!"

That first 2:45 min are pure, heaven. Thank the Good Lord that there are people who still care about tone, as you sure don't hear it on top 40 radio any more. I'll take any one of those pristine half notes over a shredders flurry* of saturated distortion.

* And maybe a wee bit envious that I can't play that fast! :)

Your idea of what tone is may not be what everyone else thinks it is. Does that make them wrong? I feel that the carr amps put out a idealized vintage tone. And a good one at that. I am not the least bit interested due to the fact I can get close enough with what I have and I do not use that tone much at all. At least not at their price point. Now, if I did use that style often it would be a great amp.

That's true. There are other great tones, such as some really great (epic) sounding roaring distortions that sound like world's colliding that can melt your face. I think the attraction for the Carr cleans to me is that they are not common in much of today's music and take me back to an earlier era of guitar music.

IMO, I think we are all searching for a tone that speaks it's special message to us. Fortunately, there is enough gear these days in many price brackets that it's not necessary to break the bank to find it.
