E p i p h a n y..... EPIPHANY.

 I never EVER, even during the best moments of my by the way rather excellent original x100b's finest moments, ever heard my guitars sound this good. The most staggeringly transformed so far is my already-number-one, the DC 150k. That thing sounds like shimmering, eternal, magic. You think I'm exaggerating.. wait until I put some demos together.

I still haven't played the 1972 and 1975 vintage Hagstroms, or the triple P90 guitar. I'm just floored. Floored. Best amp I know of for this sound in a low wattage combo package.. actually probably in any package of any wattage and setup. This is reallllly rarified stuff. So substantial, so musical, the improvement is so extreme.

I raise a toast from this blown mind to Steve Carr. And I still have so much more to go through in terms of tone in here.

That's freaking hilarious.

I'm still so mesmerized by the sounds I'm pulling out of my guitars. I've never had an amp this sensitive to pick attack, volume and tone rolloffs... On my Carvin amp, fair enough, you roll off your guitar pots to clean up and you definitely notice a difference. With this thing, it's a completely different universe of response level and musicality. It's total next level design and construction. And the amount of gain this thing is capable of is ridiculous. Not to mention the different kinds of gain, via using the Series/parallel switch in conjunction with the boost switch with the two High channel/Low channel independent volumes. But like the conversation Texas Toast and I were having, this thing can do the purest most authentic Marshall overdrive pretty much through the entire catalog of amps from a Plexi to say a Nineties jubilee or something along those lines.

BUT if you're looking for something that can ALSO do that specific, modern big bottle Uberschall/Mesa Rec ferocious overdrive that makes you want to call the wife and check on the kids, because you feel like something evil has been set loose in the world... Not gonna do it. You need to buy that to get that. (You can get in the ballpark, but if you really are deep into modern metal and you want that specific drive profile, best to get the real thing).

I'll put together a full review on this eventually, but just wanted to thank you guys for the well wishes.

Even the friggin plug sees Steve Carr go the extra mile.

YEEEEESSSS.

Although I have a friend from across the pond at the British Film Institute who's here in NYC and we're meeting for coffee, so unfortunately gonna have to tear myself away, difficult as that will be. I literally get to see him once every five to ten years. If it wasn't like this, I'd be like [insert best SEE YA, BRO! meme].

>*.phew.*< tearing myself away after this weekend was freakin rough.

I surely hope that his business continues to build. Obviously not a mass market item or even something that the average guitarist is going to spring for. Steve Carr is obviously aiming at the high end market of working studio musicians and name players that are looking for superiority combined miraculously with compact convenience. The big sound coming out of that 1 x 12 pine cab is just tremendous and is a big piece of the overall list of ingredients that combine to make this great total sound. Considering that my chassis S/N# is up in the 260's, and this specific model# is on the marketplace for less than a year, that's pretty decent revenue for a tiny Pittsboro company that also sells a bunch of other similarly priced models that no doubt sell in similar numbers. Still a market for USA handmade quality in the music business.

I started saving just after November, determined to sacrifice financially until I got the thing into my mitts. And WOW does it not disappoint.

I'm still at that point where I'm forming a file cabinet in my head where all the sound profiles go, where I can start associating music running thru my head with those sounds and build songs around them in my brain, then sit down and write record them. Do that w the X100 all the time, as crazy variable as it can go with totally opposing sounds, I have a full picture of everything it does, and does well, does not so well and stay away from, etc.

I'll do some A/B'ing of the Carr and the Carvin, from some basic, clean, slightly broken up, and roaring dirt from one vs the other. The Carr reverb is just a touch more of that watery, splashy type but not much. You don't hear those bubbly pops that you get when you throw some reverbs all the way over (I'm looking at you, Fender).

A very good compendium of X100B Series III-6L6 sounds is the last instrumental I did, Tuscaloosa. It's got several different guitars in different gain stages and EQ settings laid against a clean-sound / ES335 style semihollow guitars' (the vintage Viking) chord structure.

Congrats, Doc!
Looking forward to hear some tones you rectify with the amp & your guitar stable.
Stoked for you as it seems we share mutual emotions about or amps (a vintage Yamaha DG80 in my case).
Enjoy!

Thanks Chris! Man, was I up late last night with that amp. It's so insane pulling power tube crunch at apartment friendly volumes, and the cabinet is just so superb. You just can't stop playing. Every meaningless noodle comes out loaded with poetry and significance. Even your screwups sound like classic records. It's truly amazing.

I like watching the motorized knobs turn on those old Yamahas. They were cool. I think Alan used one with a Vintage 30 in it IIRC?

I had a chance to provide Al with some backline back in 1998 & 2003, and he did make some friendly fuss everytime seeing two Yamahas DG100 with Vintage 30s onboard I supplied him with for the cleans.

The DG80s had a G12H-100 speaker factory-installed and that was the amp/speaker option Allan insisted I should consider buying, which I eagerly did. Apparently, September this year is the 20th anniversary of my DG80. Now talking about a lifetime commitment... Wishing you have a good one, too!

I read somewhere that there is a crazed man in New York, that looks like he hasn't slept for days, has a bloody left hand, and is babbling non coherently about his CARR. Nobody has actually seen him driving a car though. Some say he might be suffering from 'Old Hag Syndrome", which can result in a severe sleep deficit. Others had theorized he may be sniffing Super glue, but reports are, he just keeps putting the glue on his bleeding fingers.
Anybody around here know who this might be?

"Anyone... got any... Xanax? Tyenol PM even?"

The thing is unreal. I'm meeting a singer for coffee tomorrow am, but I'll try to get some samples up this weekend. There's really not a bad tone in this thing, and the sounds its capable of at low volume is just insane. It gets that holy grail power tube sustain and richness at the lowest possible attenuated whisper setting.

With legit tight low end, too!

Freaking awesome. Dweeb of the century and greatest guitar player of demo land Greg Koch with Reverend Guitars at the namm booth trying out the new korina specimens of the season, playing thru a Mercury V and Revs Ken Haas playing thru a Carr Rambler.

Proving once again... That those who know... drive a Carr.
