Doc - I have the same thing on SC, young girls following songs that my own kids won't pay any attention to.

Hey... young girls are fun for the playroom.

Green Valley Farms.

Like Heart of Ashes, there are things here that I'm very happy with, and then there are things here that I wish could be better. The latter usually concerns my voice, and certain elements of the mix. To make a song like this work fully, I really need a skilled engineer . . . but these are just demos again, and I'm not looking for a ton of listens.

Just a nasty, angry song. Lyrics on INFO tab on SC. I'll get a wav up soon.

Love the abrupt change about a minute in- totally unexpected. My first thought was "i want to play on this". :D

Vox & mix sound good. Guitars sound good. Again, going from gloomy Doors to funky Bowie to start things off was a great piece of writing. Nice job!

Thanks a bunch Rob, I appreciate your listening.

I'm glad it sounds good. It sounded (the mix, I mean) good and balanced on my reference speakers, and a pair of audiofly earbuds (my daily driver) and an old pair of expensive super-flat response Sennheiser buds. But then a drummer I work with said the mix sounded a little muddy on his buds.

This mix used something I haven't used in a long time and is not on any of the other stuff I've put up on SC so far, which is a model of an analog limiter in the master effect two position. It's probably the most musical limiter in the whole suite of REMS mastering tools--BUT, true to its name, you don't get the easy separation and individual attack definitions with a standard digi limiter.

The song is much more about the overall feeling of the piece so I went with it--it creates an atmosphere of those classic songs from the 60's and 70's.

Answering here, but just wanted to thank you for the words and the compliment and for listening. Lunacy is the right word, because that's what the song is about: the pull of stresses that will turn a man cynical and cause him to give himself permission to do self-destructive things.. the voices whispering in his head telling him "F*&^ it! why care?"

The solo, simple as it is technically, was on of the most fun for me ever, and required about 5 takes for me to get that aura of on-the-edge-madness in it so it matched that freaky-deak atmosphere of tormenting voices in the background.

Thanks colossal!

EDIT: I'll get a WAV file up soon. Just need to upload it.

Weird thing going on with my last link:

This should work: RATED X.

An utterly ridiculous song, for which I take no responsibility. :ninja:

Why thank you kind sir!

I just finished something I'd been working on, on and off, all month... which was something I'd been tinkering with since last summer--which is an an acoustic version of Heart of Ashes. I'm not totally finished with it, but I had to put it down for now. I keep trying to improve the vocals in ways I'm just not capable of (and anyhow I think the two bracketing acoustic instrumentals are more interesting, but others I've played it to disagree).

The old M22N peeks almost subliminally into the picture in those opening and closing instrumentals.

FLICKERING LIGHTS.

Shows off how much the Carvin XV212 loves that Super Swede. The DC150 is on one track in each chorus.

Was a blast to record. These P90s are pulling me in some fun areas.

Thanks man. I've been picking up a nice little run of new SoundCloud subs off of this song. Just the first half of the first day I put it up alone I picked up eight new subscribers.

It was a very fun song to play and sing. In terms of mix I think it's one of the better ones, especially in terms of the drum kit. I'll get a wav up for this one in a day or so., in case anyone is interested.

As I said on FB, I was bouncing around like a nutjob in my apartment I had so much fun recording this. These P90's keep pulling me in (especially as I get better at micing and mixing/EQ'ing them) straight-ahead directions, although nothing but M22's could have handled the crunches in the choruses and the leads. This is a personal fave:

17th Anniversary, nothing but Carvin on this one. A tale of an aging "slow" (or "special needs") couple, with the male half getting a little insecure after wifey gets treated to a trip to the beauty parlor.

Older song I first recorded last year, but that take was too primitive. I'm not completely happy with this one but it's getting there.

Hey Doc,

great stuff here. The song is filled with great little juicy guitar performances and the tone is killer. I also like how you weave the different sections of the composition together so they flow nicely, both with the instruments and vocals - that is not easy!

Awesome stuff! Thanks for sharing!

Rob

Hey Rob, thanks a bunch. That was a really fun song to record. Most of the verses are the neck p90 on that customized Hagstrom, and the chorus is the bridge p90 mixed with the M22SD to push in more humbucker twang. I actually have a long version of that song with a last verse in it that i have to release. I held it back for another time because it has a curse or two in it.. si it will be an "Uncensored Version" .. just for fun.

But it was fun to sing and play. It always reminds me of New Orleans horn jazz for some reason.. I can hear the main verse figures with that bop being played by some kids for quarters out on the street during tourist season.

First part with lyrics is likely a bit folky for the metally dudes around here, but the second half that closes it out features a lot of m22 crunch from the 150, and a Greeny, out of phase solo.
