Long Goodbye & LMJ

Postby Brian Johnston » Fri Jul 22, 2016 11:42 am

I always found it interesting when 'dreaming' songs (sometimes not knowing if they already exist). The past two weeks I had this experience. Long Goodbye is what I heard in my head upon waking one morning. LMJ (Lennon, McCartney, Johnston [me]) was during a dream... I was at a trade show toward the end of the day with the tables and booths empty and I was singing this with Lennon and McCartney while walking the vacant floor. No, it doesn't make sense, but then again, it's a dream. Those two songs are at the top on my page at:

One Rainy Evening

New song with some humor... a bit 'spagetti western' sounding with the beginning/ending riffs. One Rainy Evening is the top song listed on my site at:

ABC

Postby Brian Johnston » Mon Sep 05, 2016 7:33 am

An instrumental, I call it ABC because of it's basic application (for me). I select a style of music in Band-in-a-Box, then start off in some key or with some chord. Then often the first thing I play becomes the starting point, and I develop it from there (usually takes a few hours or so). ABC is the top piece listed on my page:

Thanks... but this is how I practice. I can't practice scales and learning other songs like most people do... I find it boring. I need to compose, which gives me my practice. Different strokes, etc.

Paul is Dead?

Postby Brian Johnston » Sat Sep 10, 2016 7:41 am

Primarily an instrumental, Paul is Dead? includes some lyrics (below). I added the vocal to address the obsession that's on many people's minds, about the real Paul McCartney having died in 1966 and William Campbell (Shears) taking his place in 1967. Paul is Dead is the top song listed on my page at:

https://www.reverbnation.com/GrandFusion

LYRICS:
What’s the deal when you over stay in my life?
Are you dead, is the walrus no more?
Are you dead, has Paul walked out the door?

Is it clear that Billy’s here? I don’t know.
Tell the truth, your eyes and ears don’t lie.
Tell the truth, is it hello or goodbye?

Folk Lore

Postby Brian Johnston » Wed Sep 21, 2016 6:37 am

A short instrumental. I develop pieces like this one for practice purposes... some finger acrobatic stuff that involves various rhythms and techniques. I call it Folk Lore because of the acoustic/mandolin style of backing track. It's the top selection on my page at:
