website is frustratingly slow

Postby Toptube » Thu Jan 09, 2020 8:01 pm

This is probably no secret but I think its past time to start talking about it.

The website is very frustratingly slow. I know Jeff often comments about how they aren't web developers over there at Kiesel, so they are slow to add pics and whatnot. But, simply navigating the site has been painful for months. And seems to be ever so slightly edging worse and worse. I'm getting huge delays on page loads, any time I click on any links in the main site. Guitars in stock, basses, guitars, parts, etc.

It seems to be bad, virtually any time of day.

I have a history in professional IT. This happens on both my high end Windows 10 PC and my 2013 laptop with Windows 7. Wired internet connection and wireless, alike.

Right after I posted the above, I counted roughly 16 seconds to load the "guitars in stock" page. But it actually took about 20 seconds for all of the images to load.

* 31 seconds to navigate to SOLIDBODY ELECTRIC & ACOUSTIC/ELECTRIC GUITARS
6, 7, 8 & 12 STRING MODELS section and then load all of the images.

20 seconds to load the gallery section for the new 6 string Headless Delos------to find out there aren't any pics in the gallery. :wall:

About 15 seconds to load the basses section so that I could click on the Icon 5 (but not all images had yet loaded). Another 15 seconds to load the Icon 5 page (some images still loading). The builder popped up near instantly. But then it was nearly 40 seconds to load the first page of the builder, to choose righty or lefty.

I tried to post about this in the FB group but within minutes, had to deal with a few posts poking at my IT background. So, I deleted the post.

Seems like the site is fine for most people. But, a couple of people did echo that they were having delays with the main site.

Dont know what to tell you...here is me, loading the website on my work phone. I've never opened the site on this phone before. I'm on my near-the-airport crappy cell reception. Full bass page loads on less than 3-4 seconds.

what about via a computer?

Mobile is fine for me, as well.

which suggest my ISP may have some issue with Kiesel's site. However, i've had this issue in another city, at someone else's house, as well. Different ISP.

I just clicked on several links. Guitars, Basses, Guitars in Stock, Part & Accessories, etc.
They all loaded so fast; I didn't even have time to take a sip of my beer!

By no means, am I a web master. Nothing of the sort. But all those links are loading really fast!
Just sayin'. Home computer, windows 7 Pro.

OK, testing it on my work wi-fi, with my 5-year-old Lenovo T450s laptop, Windows 10, Chrome. Last Windows re-install was about 2 years ago. Just like with my work phone, first time loading this web page on my work laptop.

(note: I *just* uploaded it, so vid quality might suck until youtube's had time to process:

No issues viewing and browsing their site on my end, either. Using Firefox, W10Pro x64 and ExpressVPN on a 300Mbs connection. ISP is Sparklight, formerly known as Cable One.

This is weird.

I'm not running any customizations like browser apps or ad blockers. Two different computers do this, wired and wireless. But only delays with the main site. The forum is fine. Its gotta be something my ISP doesn't like about the site.

Are you saying that there are some people out there whom experience intense site lag, like I do?

Not particularly. Sorry to not be clear. I meant the redo of the website and its maintenance regardless was a Product Suggestion for years, as was the line of volunteers to help crowd-resource the free labor to get it done and keep it at the desired level.

Entire site is lightning quick for me. Pretty much instant, with zero lag.
