Carvin /X KIESEL TUNERS

Postby farmin542 » Mon Jun 12, 2017 6:30 am

I'm going to give a ct6 from 2006 a makeover and want to change out hardware color. Can anyone tell me if the Kiesel branded locking tuners are a direct replacement for the Carvin branded locking tuners? Thanks.

You have a 2006 with Carvin branded *locking* tuners? I don't think i know how that's possible. In 2006, they came with Sperzel, years before Carving came out with their Carvin-branded locking tuners.

Body from 2006. Neck was replaced after the Kiesel conversion and entire guitar refinished by Jeff. As you can see it still has Carvin locking tuners on it. I have no way of making sure the Kiesel branded tuners are a drop in replacement except the hope that someone else has tried to do the same thing

Oh, gotcha...ok, that makes more sense. A 2006..with new neck and tuners. :)

I don't have an answer to your question but I had to say that that is a stunning guitar!

A few questions:

Why change the tuners? Aren't they the same, or is there a different ratio on the new ones?

How does one replace a neck on a set neck guitar?
Sounds difficult.

How does one get Kiesel to refinish a guitar?
I've asked, and been told flat out - no way.
Sounds equally difficult!
Current Carvins:
2010 Bolt (Candy Red Metallic)
2013 Bolt Plus (Koa)
2016 Black n Blue VSEVEN
2017 TT SCB6

Wish List
Some sort of multiscale 6 HSS with RAD ASH
JB Numbers Guitar (July sale has given me the itch!)

I've grown tired of the gold hardware. I put custom brass block and brass trem stopper on to make Floyd fixed as well and I'm switching saddles to chrome string through saddles so I don't have to cut strings anymore, then changing to chrome nut, chrome tuners, new CTS mini pots, speed knobs, and Suhr Pete Thorn pickups. The tuners work fine as do the pots, knobs, and pickups, just morphing it into something else for fun. I have another one with same build specs including the gold hardware but differant finish. Also they won't refinish as a rule as far as I know, the neck failed in the 1st version so it was replaced and refinished the entire guitar. And no it is not easy compared to swapping out a bolt on neck, but very doable by skilled luthiers.

I got a reply from Kiesel and the tuners are same specs as the Carvin tuners.
