Color Treated Fretboard Issue

Postby solazy » Sat Jul 29, 2017 1:41 pm

I recently purchased a Kiesel Vader with a denim colored treated fretboard. I absolute love the guitar but I am noticing after I play (even for short amounts of time) that the color from the fretboard will rub off on my fingers like a marker or pen. I wanted to know if this is common and is there anything I can do to fix the issue. Thanks.

Jeff has commented a few times in videos that his KTB process is quite durable for nearly all of the colors. About a month ago, even held up his own guitar with "Fire" finish, which includes a red KTB board and noted that it had been played quite a lot and still looked near new. However, some artists who tour and often play long sweaty shows, have managed to wear their KTB noticeably, after approximately one year of use.

You are going to have to call them. This is a potential warranty issue.

Are there any other KTB owners out there who are experiencing this issue?

You stated in another post that you purchased this used. It’s possible that the original owner did it themselves with a marker. Call in with the serial number, and ask for the spec sheet of that build.

So I took a damp cloth to the fretboard and was able to rub off tons of excess ink. I did this for an hour alternating between damp and dry towel and now my fretboard no longer bleeds onto my fingers. I have numerous times just rubbed my fingers across the board more than anyone would normally do and there has been zero run off. I can only guess there was an excess of ink that seeped through the sealant.
