To move SCB6 strap button

Postby tcamuso » Mon Aug 28, 2017 7:25 am

I recently realized that playing is easier for me when I hold the guitar in my lap leaning slightly away from me.

Consequently, I would like to move the topmost SCB6 strap button from the side of the body to the back of the heel of the neck or back of the body.

Does anyone have experience doing that?

Does anybody think that's a bad idea?

Would have been nice if I had determined this before ordering the guitar, but live and learn.

I've done that on a couple guitars. Well, I've *had it done* for a couple guitars.

In both cases, we ADDED the new button, and left the existing one. It wasn't in the way.

If you plan to do it yourself, MAKE SURE YOUR DRILL BIT AND SCREW IS SIZED TO NOT GO THROUGH YOUR FRETBOARD, which I watched someone do once.

I once has a strap buttom added in a "normal" spot, because the guitar alreaady had one on the back of the neck, and it wasn't for me. Then, in an acoustic, I've had a strap button added to the back of the neck so that I could use a "normal" strap without the extra headstock tie strings.

Thanks for that tip! And, I have no plans to add the button myself. I'll have a guitarsmith do it.

One other question:

I have a flat, square Kiesel case. Will a back button change the way the case supports the neck?

My SH645 has a back button and I'm keeping it in a hard case, when it's in the case. and I've had no troubles in that respect, so I imagine you won't either. The case supports the neck above the button, as far as I can see.
