Tuner Problem on new Guitar

Postby Jackson928 » Fri Dec 01, 2017 8:57 pm

I am having a tuner problem on a locking tuner (high e) on my new CT6. I broker the original string at the high e. Restrung it, played it tuned up a couple times, noticed it slipped, re-tuned it and it snapped again. It seems to have some slop (moves back and forth a little) when tight. The others do not do this, on any of my guitars, the lock and have zero slop. With this one I can still turn a millimeter or so both ways (slop).

After just checking again. I can wobble the entire locking wheel around a bit while all the others are very solid. Seems like a bearing or bushing maybe missing inside?

TIA

If it's a new guitar, yeah, give them a call. They're very good about honoring warranty issues.

Thanks for the help.

I have had it maybe a few weeks. It is my second Kiesel and out of all 12 tuners this one is just off. It has weird movement while the other have zero movement. I played the guitar awhile and when I went back to it the high e was way low out of tune, noticed the lock was loose and tightened it and went to tune and it snapped not sure if it broke or slipped but it does not reach back to the peg).

Did not give it much mind until the same exact think happened again with a new set of strings. That is when I inspected the tuner and noticed it was a bit off from the others. Was hoping maybe it was something simple I could fix , so I posted here.

Zero problems like this with my DC600.

Sounds to me like that part just failed and should be covered by warranty. For what it's worth, i think this is the first issue I've seen here of this issue with their new tuners since they were launched several years ago, probably totaling close to 100,000 individual tuners. Outta sucks that it happened, but it sounds like an easy fix that they should cover.

By any chance, are you using any kind of guitar rack that grips or suspends by the headstock? My Hercules racks can impinge on the low and high E tuners on 3x3 configuration and the tuner nearest the nut on the 6 inline configuration.

The screw that holds the tuner knob on also adjusts tension on some brands. I am not sure about the kiesel tuners. Might want to check that screw in the center of the knob. Tighten it a bit and see if that improves things.
