Headless Trem stability issue.

Postby Deadweight » Tue Dec 26, 2017 5:48 pm

Hello. I’ve had my headless Vader V6X for a few months now and have found that when I drop the trem arm down and release tension the trem will return back to perfect tuning but if pulled back it will stay very sharp until depressed again. Anything I can do to try to make it return to tune after pulling back?
Thanks

That sounds like--exactly like-- the problems the old Kahlers had, especially when used with a non reinforced (the windings down at the ball end) string.

I would Nut Sauce everything in sight, and even the areas out of sight. Those areas you don't want ginky with lube because your hand might touch, get a pencil with a long thin point in there at the exact contact point, and saw the point back and forth to get some graphite dust shaved off into there. It's great for preventing string binding. Eyeball the nut slots and saddles closely too and make sure things are sliding smooth and free.

There is no "always stays in tune" perfect tremolo system, they all have their good points and bad points, but that shouldn't be happening to you after such a short time. Prime everything up, if it still happens bring it to a good tech, if it still happens, call Kiesel or Contour.

Hipshot Tremsetter.

Would probably also help if they redesigned the nut to have two lock-downs — the current single-string screws plus a Floyd-style clamp. The example below has this in addition to a traditional nut, but replacing the nut would be still even better.
