The smell of V6

Hi all,

First of all, please do not get me wrong here, but I think my Kiesel Vader V6 stinks. I mean, actually smells bad.

I got the guitar about two weeks ago and it has been out of the case since that. Still the smell is quite strong and reminds the smell of wood cutting machine lubricant oil mixed with saw dust.

The smell is very strong and seems to be coming from the body.

The smell might come from the satin matte finish in body, as my clear gloss VB4 does not have the same smell.

Has anybody observed the same thing and if so, what might help with the situation?

I’m asking this as I can smell the guitar from like 2 meters distance.

The satin matte finish should be the same type of finish as the gloss. That sounds very strange. Perhaps the bridge got an extra lube?

With my hound dog nose I'm pretty sure it is the whole body instead of just the bridge. I can sense the smell also in both of the horns which are quite a far away from the bridge.

Perhaps a silly question: new or used?

Good question!

It's brand new. Recieved the guitar on January 12th.

I've noticed same thing, actually.

My VM7 that I received roughly 2 months ago has this smell that reminds me of lubricants used in engine parts or smth like that. I was thinking about the bridge as a possible culprit, but this Vader happens to have satin finish too.. so dunno.

Initially I thought this is just some "new guitar" thing, but it hasn't really faded away. Doesnt' bother me too much, though.

I wonder if maybe they use some sort of cleaner that doesn't get polished out on the satin models like it would in the buffed glossy builds? It's the only thing I could think of that would make a satin smell any different than a gloss.

Mine does indeed have a chambered body.

After some more intensive sniffing I have come to the conclusion that it is the satin matte finish that causes the smell.

I have also a VB4 with the neck with satin matte finish and there I can sense the exact same smell. Though, the smell in the neck of VB4 is not that strong as with the body of V6.

I guess there is not that much to do other than wait the smell go away. Anyway, new cars do not have the new car smell anymore after couple of months anymore either :)
