Just ordered an Aries

Postby ElfDude » Wed Aug 09, 2017 1:56 pm

In 2002 I was fresh out of a divorce and ready to order my first ever high end guitar. I chose the AE185 for its awesome versatility. Thought it was the last guitar I'd ever have to buy. ;) Called Carvin and chose my options and gave 'em my money. And it's been a great friend.

Since then I've purchased in-stock from them and bought used stuff, bringing me to a total of seven of their guitars and one of their basses. Today, fifteen years later, I finally ordered another custom build. It'll be my first one with the Kiesel logo on it.
Gonna keep the specs to myself for now.
And go nuts for the next two and a half months.

Heartfelt thanks to Mike Jones for all his help and patience with me. 8)

Elfdude is in a swedish black metal band. The guitar will be none more black, with "SMORGASNOGIHWEOGJNDSVN" written on the truss rod cover.

Okay, let's see if we can guess what you ordered! Ha!

Thinking about what you already own, I think you probably have solid paint jobs covered... You have black, and you have white, and you also have the metallic electric blue, so I think that might also take the spot of the splash of color in your collection, along with two guitars with flamed Maple tops... Your c66 and dc135. I think your cherryburst 135 is enough of a "classic" style bust that you might not want for another like a honeyburst or something... especially because they are both flamed Maple, and I feel like you are too level headed to jump to quilted maple... but wouldn't hold it against you. Ha!

I also know that you like the sounds of the lithium pickups with mahogany, and I could definitely see this next purchase being a natural wood finish... But I'm not sure this is the build for just a solid mahogany body with a clear finish...so perhaps a wood that might sound similar to mahogany... find I know you lie to experiment with pickups, so possibly the Parallax and Holdsworth combo...but with a middle single coil maybe? Hmm... vane not because ta humbuckets split so well...

And because you have the c66, you already have a bent wood forearm contour, I do think you're going to try to stick with the bevel.

I am torn, though, on Fret count... You have several 22 fret models, and at least two 24 fret models. I don't think I could take a guess on this... It would be a coin flip shot in the dark.

So my guess is clearly for an 8 string multiscale, translucent Pearl pink on Ash, with Kiesel racing green painted binding, with the Cotton Candy finish package, but only on the back, and a rosewood fretboard, fretless. Oh, and OP50 control
Layout: controls mounted on the back. :laughhard:

Actually, my guess is a solid black Limba body with the Aries bevel, and...hmm... ebony? Royal ebony? One of the ebony fret boards. Now...to trem, or not to trem? Perhaps the new band requires some trem work which would necessitate the new guitar... so I'm going to add the Hipshot Kiesel Contour trem, all hardware in...umm...hmm... black could play nicely with the hypothetical FB, so I'm going with that.

3+3 headstock, and I have so idea why. Ha!

On a scale from 1-7.6 with 3 being the closest, how far out in the woods am I?

The band is called The Tri-Chevys (name chosen by our drummer)... a term some collectors use in reference to the 55, 56, and 57 Chevrolets. They also call them the "Tri-fives" a lot. We're strictly a cover band, focusing on the 50s and 60s with a wee bit of other stuff. Buddy Holly, Everly Brothers, Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison, Chuck Berry, etc. Below are pics of our logo and a couple of us.

It's fun to see your speculations. I can tell you, I never would have ordered a build with these specs before this band became such a fun thing in my life.

I love the band logo, Elf. I've got no idea what kind of Aries you are cooking up, but it sure is fun hearing people guess. Maybe you can start posting pictures of the kind of guitar you are definitely NOT getting, help us narrow it down some... :)
