I was in a similar place with the Aries. One day, something just "clicked" and I suddenly had an unquenchable need for a jewel-tone red AAT one-piece body with a bevel, and some things worked out.

I know, right?

I know he's got a seafoam/surf-sized hole in his collection, and he's already got white covered, but...I don't know...still thinking Vintage cream. In all gold hardware and logo (and frets‽) with the black headstock? Yeah, buddy. :)

For now I'd like to keep that to myself.
We'll see if I cave as the wait drives me crazy.

I'm gonna cave. I'm really excited about this, yet I've made myself unable to talk about it to the only people I know who would actually understand my excitement. How dumb is that? So yeah, let's talk specs.

But first, I mentioned the impetus was my new band. As you saw in the pics on page one, not only are we going for an old sound but we we're trying to have a look as well, hence the fuzzy dice hanging on the mic stands and stuff, the rockabilly/bowling jerseys, etc. When we started I was thinking that my Les Paul with the P-90s would be perfect for this band. But as I looked at photos of popular bands from the late 50s I really didn't see a lot of Les Pauls. I saw lots of Strats, Teles, and big old f-hole guitars! Well, I've got the f-hole thing covered. My Dean Palomino looks and sounds great for this band. So does my SH225. And my 335 copy. And the very best sounding thing I can play in this band is, of course, my Carvin Bolt. And hey, it looks like a Strat, right? Well... the Electric Blue Metallic finish isn't working for me in this environment. In fact, most of my Carvins look too modern for this band in my opinion.

I did some serious pondering about what instrument I could get to really become my signature Tri-Chevys guitar. I could get a real Strat that matches the bassists Fender Jazz bass. Or maybe something that looks totally rockabilly like a Gretsch. I looked at used Bolts even... to see if there were any more vintage looking ones.

But in the end I decided to go with something that could be, in my mind at least, both modern and retro at the same time. Attached is a photo of our drummer's pride and joy. A 57 Chevy Bel Air that he restored. It's pretty much our band's mascot. We were pretty much named after it. The three of us are riding in it in that cartoon logo of ours. I decided to to make a guitar that is the Kiesel equivalent of that car.

The car is mostly black, but with white parts. It has lots of chrome. And it has a gold Chevrolet logo.
This Aries will be:
White white
Black back and sides (which also covers all that beveled frontal area)
22 frets, 25.5" scale
Hipshot bridge/tail piece (no trem)
Chrome hardware
Three black Lithium single coils (so excited to hear these)
Ebony fretboard
Diamond MOP inlays
Black painted headstock with gold logo
White truss rod cover

I think everything else is stock/default. I expect it to sound great, feel great, and fit in perfectly with the look of this band. I can take it and one of my f-hole guitars to every show and have a great time! :)

That sounds like it'll be a sharp-lookin' thang!

Which headstock did you go with?

Paint job similar to this one:

Yes! Is it weird that not knowing the specs has actually sort of stressed me out. Man, I'm a dork.

Yep. Similar to that one.
I didn't specify a headstock, so I guess I'm getting the default inline one.

I think it's going to look pretty slick. 8)

It's funny. I was going to write (when I joshed you about cowbelling specs) "if it has something to do with a vintage chevy automobile, it will go on the guitar," but I didn't, because there were other possibilities that I thought could play into it from your other exhibited tastes that would make me wrong. So I didn't guess.

From the majority of the feedback given on Aries, you should really love it. I've heard folks say "I've owned ($7k Gibsons/$3k Strats/PRS/Suhr/etc etc), but this is the best guitar I've ever owned." That's not something I hear on every Carvin/Kiesel model (but at the same time it's not the only model they make, or have made, that I have heard that on). Hopefully your's will be an atomic grand slam.

That design always reminds me of good ol Spy Vs Spy from vintage Mad Magazine.
