Build No 3 - JP700X - UPDATED: First Sighting

Postby Doc_Shred » Fri Mar 09, 2018 3:27 pm

EDIT: The guitar showed up in the live stream on Wednesday. Blown away by how it looks. I love how Jeff has laid out the Koa top with the dark grain down the centre. That'll look great with the all black hardware.

The only fly in the ointment is that the controls are a little off from my layout design (which I have on my DC600). It looks like this may have been caused by the new body design. Looking at the pic of the rear it looks like the control cavity is now much further from he edge of the guitar with the old shape. Hopefully development on the 7 string Berylliums will be finished by the time the guitar is done.

Well that didn't take long...

So hot on the heels of my JP inspired DC600X I've decided to have a big brother DC700X built. Same custom control layout and electronics, but completely different woods and look. I've also specced the new Beryllium for the neck to get closer in tone to an Air Norton (probably my all time favourite neck pickup) so fingers crossed it'll be ready in time.

Yet again I was lured in by Jeff's Pick Your Top!! I've always loved Koa so when 6A comes up at less than half price... well it'd be rude not to.

Going with swamp ash for the body with the Summer Ash Treatment (left in the picture)which I think should tie in really nicely with the lighter parts of the Koa and works really well with a one piece walnut neck.

Brilliant build. I wasn't familiar with the Summer Ash Treatment! It's beautiful. How much does it cost today?

Cheers man! It's $100 for Summer Ash Treatment, which is the same price as the Antique Ash I think. It's a really warm finish and I think it makes the walnut look extra chocolatey :D

I can definitely recommend the Summer Ash. Looks great with the walnut neck.

Koa and black hardware is the shizzle. Take it from an old koa dweeb like me.
