Coincidence this post popped up today. I am primarily a bass player and unfortunately I don't spend as much time with my TL60 as I would like. However, I just received a pedal in the mail today that I made a trade for ( 1979 block logo, non LED, MXR Distortion+) so I broke out the TL60 and my '61 Fender Brown Deluxe. Man, that is the sweetest playing guitar I have ever put my hands on. And the tone, through the brown, sublime. 8)

jfine, man, I just love your guitar. It's so close to my ideal build, it's scary.

Now that you've had it for a while, is there something you wish you'd done differently?

I'm getting ready to order my next Carvin and I've been in love with the TL60 since forever. Since you guys already own one (or more), I had a few questions...

* Floyd Rose on a TL60? If you've done it, are you happy with it? What issues would you recommend I consider before I order?
* Locking Nut or no locking nut? (I'm not doing a lot of dive bombs)
* I want maximum tonal flexibility. Should I go for the FA & ACA option?
* Walnut body and a maple top: will that be too bright?
* C22 + 2 Twinblades. Recommended? Why or why not?

Please share your thoughts on these questions!

Welp! Sorry it took me 6 months to reply to this...

*I have Floyd on my TL60 (and to my knowledge, I'm the only current member of the BBS that does). I like to consider myself a shredder so I'm very happy that I begged Carvin to do it and eventually got my wish. However, I've noticed that, due to the body being a little bit thinner (or at least that's what I was told as to why it's not a standard option), the rout for the Floyd isn't as deep as it would be on a DC. So it doesn't have the same...flexibility as my other Floyd equipped guitars.

*I also have a locking nut on this guitar. From what I've gathered, both here on the forums and talking to Carvin employees, the locking nut itself is a little redundant considering the locking tuners that come standard on the TL60. You probably don't need the locking nut, especially if you're not doing a lot of divebombs and that sorta thing, but I prefer to add the locking nut on my Floyd equipped builds, one, just out of habit -- it's just what I'm used to -- and two, for a little extra stability, even if it is redundant.
That said, you could probably get away with the vintage tremolo or the Wilkinson on the TL60 and have the same playability you're looking for without the option 50 and thus, giving up your 10 day trial.

*Mine is a swamp ash body and maple neck, and it doesn't really sound 'bright,' so I doubt walnut + maple would be a problem, either. That's all I'll say in regard to tonewoods.

*I have the C22B in the bridge position and really like it. I've yet to try out the Twinblade pickup yet, though.

Sorry it took me so long. Hope that helps.

So can you still get the binding on these? It doesn't show in the builder

There's one in-stock, but it is listed as an option 50 (i'd imagine likely because they don't have a clear way to communicate that you have to give up the forearm contour...that's kind of a big deal)

Check the notes on the TL Guitar you are referring to:

Notes: Custom Options: No-show ash back; tortoise body binding; no arm cut bevel

"No-show ash back". now that's one I have never seen on a neck through Carvin.

Yeah, and it's a fantastic piece of ash, too! I really like that effect.

Guys, I'm this close to being a full-fledged member of this club. Two more weeks, tops. This was just wet down with alcohol to show how the quilt will pop. Getting a Black Cherry finish on top, S22s, Floyd Rose. Walnut body, flame maple neck. Here's a teaser pic...
