CM130 - Who still has their Original?

Postby BlueDude » Fri Aug 17, 2012 7:31 am

My 1978 CM130 is one of the true Original Carvin classics:
** 0-fret Hofner neck
** First-year M22 pickups
** 2 Vol + 1 Tone

34 years later it is still my favorite guitar.

ElfDude, since you asked:

http://www.dansher.com/band/b6s_twins_m.jpg

The second link shows my "twin" Carvins - a '78 CB100 bass and a '78 CM130 6-string with Serial Numbers only 8 digits apart.

More history here:

Its not a CM130, but its my original :)

My first Carvin was this SC90. I was home on leave from the USAF and visiting Hollywood. I was in the Guitar Center looking for a guitar to take with me to South Korea. Nothing there spoke to me, so as we were leaving I noticed the Carvin store across the street. This one was hanging on the wall near the front door- its the first one that caught my eye, and after plugging in & playing it for a few min I knew this was the one. But I kept playing, and playing... eventually I bellied up to the counter paid the adoption fee and took that guitar with me all over the world for the next 17 years or so.

I remember several years later taking to the Carvin store in West Covina (no longer there) for a simple checkup while visiting my folks one summer. The young man working on it was surprised to see one without the tracking device they put in the guitars today, and was shocked when I told him how old it was.

Carvin guitars are built to last ;)

Here's my '79 CM130. I bought it new and still have it. I play it regularly and still plays great. Straight neck, very little fret wear, no scratchy pots and intonates and stays in tune great.

Hi, first post. I have a CM130BE ('78 I think) and absolutely LOVE it! Mine doesn't have a head stock inlay like yours but otherwise is the same. I need a case for it. Any Ideas?

Thanks.

Thanks. I also have an X100B in Bronco White to match the V3 and am close to pulling the trigger on a CS624S in Deep Purple on quilt. Am in the building process now and have a few more option decisions to make. I also added the SS face plate and black corner protectors and handle to the V3. When I ordered my X100B I had Carvin use black piping and hardware and it really complements the V3 nicely.

Here's a 2017 update on me and my 1978 Carvin CM130. Also hoping this newer post will bump the whole thread to the first page, where it would better attract the attention of other CM130 owners.

Me: I'll be 78 next year, same time as my CM130 reaches its 40th year of service (an interesting conjunction). It remains my favorite guitar of all time. Still plays so sweet with a really low action. This is especially appreciated by me as my fingers become less flexible (and more painful) over time.

Here's a pic of of my CM130 (on your right) 6-string next to its CB100 Big Brother Bass:

Note that the serial numbers are only 8 digits apart.

Play on...

VERY sweet. There's a CM95 for sale on Reverb, and the price itself isn't bad (in the 700's for the ask which could likely be negotiated down, I spoke to the store which has it on consignment so the owner is likely negotiable), but the danged thing is in Australia, so we're talking about a nearly 300 shipping sub charge!
