Oh yeah, that's most definitely a quilted maple top. I was referring to Praisers bass because I don't think I've seen wood like that used for any recent guitars.

And whoever buys that bass from the in Stock section is in for a real treat, because that in stock photo doesn't do it justice...

It's all good that you prefer the GIS bass over mine. No hard feelings at all...
Wifey better hope we have a small tax return this year and that that Icon sells by then.

I ordered a Flamed Maple top but added an OP50 to have it in a chevron pattern.
The order was for a "Tight" grain pattern and I was a little surprised when I first saw it.
I was expecting the whole thing to look like the bottom part of the bass. The looser, random grain in the horns really makes it unique, though, and now I'm confident it was destined to be part of the build.

That's the beauty (and danger) of Carvins.
You just never know what they are gonna pull out of the stack.

Yeah, you shouldn't have any hard feelings. I prefer darker guitars a bit more, so the GIS one is more my style, but I'd kill to have either. The difference between very very VERY awesome and very very very VERY awesome is quite small. Yours looks almost like jewelry though, which is cool (if that makes sense??)

It definitely can seem like a bit of a coin toss with their guitars. But even the "worst of them" looks as good as any black Ibanez prestige or standard Fender (in my opinion).

I'm still kinda jealous of everyone that already has a Carvin to play on though. :(

I just checked out your guitar again though, and I gotta say I'd be kinda afraid to touch it. Flames running up and down, all around.... seems kinda dangerous. :P

Jewelry does seem to fit. It is a pale, blinged-out beauty, like my wife, who loves her sparkles.

Your signature says you have a Carvin guitar...is that hopeful, or are you just referring to not having a Carvin bass?
I got my first one used and it is like "home" to me on a 4 string.
Here's a link to the now 4 year old thread. I only bring it up as you said you prefer darker guitars. http://www.carvinbbs.com/viewtopic.php? ... ight=lb70p

No danger, except for having to listen to my underachieving attempts at playing. :D

Actually, this is really disappointing for me. I came home after submitting an assignment at University, and found the UPS slip saying they came by but I wasn't around to sign or pay my import fees. Otherwise, today would have been my NGD..... :(

Now looking at your other bass, that is some nice walnut right there. That's going to make every Warwick player around the world lament the fact they hadn't heard of Carvin before.

The only thing that you're missing on that bass guitar is the other 1-2 strings ;). I'm all about extended range instruments. I also have a 5 string Warwick Rockbass, which was my first ever "real" instrument.

And come on man, confidence!!!

That is some heavenly walnut, supreme grade!!!
The owner of that is surely going to mess their pants and require a smoke after seeing that beauty. I need a smoke after seeing that

Thanks for posting that GNP.

There have been more that a few exuberant Carvin's that that would elicit playing playing "buck naked" and this one certainly makes this new standard. I'm laughing my a$$ off while I'm writing this.

Cheers,

Great looking build there! Is that a walnut back to go with the neck??
Either way, it's a great Carvin 5er! Hope you get it soon.

And in reference to the "butt naked" comments above this, there are just some guitars that are so obviously female that it can't be denied. 'Nuf said.

Chris was so right when he said I did the right thing getting the blackburst edges on it. I'm also REALLY happy with the DTS, the flame really pops and the purple is like the perfect shade. This is the PERFECT guitar :D
