The "more than one in the oven" club

Postby Mooseboy » Sat Jun 22, 2013 2:54 pm

Man, this club's going to be pretty small, I think. Pretty sure that Appollyon is the king of this club, since I think that he's had three or more in the oven at once.

So right now I have two in the oven. Who else is, or has been, in the same situation?

May 2012: DC800 claro/maple/claro and DC727 nebula burst
When I first re-discovered Carvin a little over a year ago, I ordered a DC800. Being a complete newb, I ordered it without tung, too much blackburst and sig inlays (which look good but not on an 8 IMO). I had already placed an order for my DC727, so I ended up with two in the oven.

Aug/sept 2012: DC127, SH65, DC800
I ordered my mega-opt50 SH65, a DC127 with koa and a flamed board/neck-show, and then took a trip down to San Diego. I thought my SH65 would be done and id just pick it up there...ended up ordering my opt50 DC800 there with Flock, so, if memory serves me right, I had three in the oven. I ended up returning the DC127, cause the string kept slipping off the edge.

Dec 2012: Standard bolt/CT74
Ordered my trans red bolt with AP11's (love em!), and then Carvin made my dream come true with the new CT7. I had to order it immediately in the new diamond white.

June 2013: SH575CE/HH2X
I had Exotic Woods USA deliver a thick piece of amboyna burl to make my SH575 and just recently ordered my Holdsworth in rad green.

:wall: I'm done...

In January I had 3 being built at the same time, my koa ae185, my koa ac375 and my bolt in gunmetal grey metallic. Recently it was the ct324 white/white and ct624 Claro walnut. I think I'm done for a while now although I did give the ct324 to my son.

My hats off to you gentleman. I don't have the financial capacity to do more than one custom shop at a time though I have purchased multiple used Carvins at once >.>

With all of the Carvins I own, I've done this only once (or twice) -

Back in 2008, story here.

And ... I'm sorta cheating on the 2nd one (well, 1st chronologically) - in 2000 I couldnt decide on which Bolt to get - Black Stain on flame, or deep purple. I ordered the purple 1st, and before that was even completed, placed the 2nd order within a few weeks.

And as honorable mention - in 2011 I went knutz and received 3 CTs, but didnt order them all at the same time - (It still hit the bank acct VERY HARD, but I dont regret it 1 bit!!)

1/2011, Koa CT324M.
7/2011, The Moss Green Manilishi CT6C Flame.
9/2011, The Purple Jelly Bean CT6M Quilt.

Figured I'd have to wait to join a club until I own one, but it looks like I was wrong. I have a feeling it took me way to long to pull the trigger on a Carvin, but I finally did with a CS6 about 7 weeks ago. Last week, I ordered a DC600. Hopefully my first is just about ready to ship.

As the old saying goes, welcome to the club! Hey it's funny, but I ordered my CT right about the same time that you ordered your CS, and I ordered my HH2 right about the same time that you ordered your DC 600.

We ought to be getting all of our guitars right about the same time. Cool!

Thanks, man. And you're right, I noticed that too. I was going to wait until I got the call that it was done to pay it off, but decided to do it when I ordered the second one, so me calling them back doesn't hold up the shipping date. :)

I'll get a truss rod cover for her, but I'll just drop it on the floor!

… and with that, the discussion took a rather macabre turn…

Haha, I only wish I could join the "deep pockets club". I'm gonna have to start the two used Carvins off ebay club.

I look at Carvins on eBay all the time, but as I'm looking at the price I'm always thinking to myself: "hmm... ...for just a bit more, I can get a custom Carvin and that's the beauty of the company."
