Very true. Saw both Billy Squier and Pat Benatar at a DFW spot called the Agora Ballroom, just before they made the jump to the arena circuit (also saw Head East there, going the other direction). Capacity was about 1500, stage was big enough for arena-style gear and hijinks, venue small enough to see the performers sweat. Perfect for "big" acts to hone their craft.

Finally got to see the Dirty Heads and they were every bit as good as I hoped they would be
there was lots of crowd participation “sing along” and a general fun vibe. Kind of a blend of reggae and rap elements with some good catchy tunes
glad I went

Aaaaaand the December 29 ZZ Top show I've been looking forward to since September is officially cancelled. They actually stopped the tour in mid-October due to an unexplained "tummy ailment" affecting Dusty Hill, but this one stayed on the books for a while - I guess I wasn't the only one hoping against hope.

Dangit. :(

It has been way too long since my last show, 2 months ago today was watching Stone Sour close out the Shiprocked cruise on the pool deck. Unbelievable energy from those guys. Now I need to go find some live music....

Bob Seger last night. 3 female back up singers, organ, keys, electric lead, electric or acoustic rhythm, lead sax, horn section with high and low trumpets and a sax and a trombone, drummer, bass.

From setlist.fm

This list is right, but it has "Her Strut" missing, which he did do. SUPER SUPER SHOW. BTW he said on stage are the same bassist since 68, same sax player since 71 (Alto Reed), and same guitar player and keys player since 80. He also said he had not played "Shame on the Moon" in 25 years - I guess until this tour.

If you like him, go see him. This is the last tour, and the band is spectacular.

Here's the list:

Shakedown
Still the Same
The Fire Down Below
Mainstreet
Old Time Rock & Roll
The Fireman's Talking
Shame on the Moon
Roll Me Away
Come to Poppa
Like a Rock
You'll Accomp'ny Me
We've Got Tonight
Travelin' Man / Beautiful Loser
Turn the Page
Forever Young (Bob Dylan)
Ramblin' Gamblin' Man

Encore:
Against the Wind
Hollywood Nights

Encore 2:
Night Moves
Rock and Roll Never Forgets

Just saw Elton John's Farewell Yellow Brick Road show. Amazing show. Great backing musicians. You could tell Elton is getting older. He wasn't running around as much as he did when I saw him in the early 2000's.

Also saw For King And Country's Little Drummer Boy show. That was nice. I love the way the group plays so many different instruments: Chimes, Marimba, Concert Bass Drum, Cello, Violin, tons of percussion. It's like being back in High School concert band. :-)

All that Remains and In Flames. In the nosebleeds of a small venue. The pit was just standing around anyway, and the sound quality was cruddy down there. I could hear it all up top. Good show.

Does non-music count? Saw Michael Carbonaro at the Taft Theater in Cincinnati Saturday, absolutely wonderful. He is a magician (has a show on TruTV) but more of a flat out entertainer. Family friendly which is great, super good time. Last live music was Ana Popovic last year - Ya boy!!!

I recently went to concerts three weekends in a row, which is unusual for me.

1. Robyn Hitchcock, solo acoustic at the Café Lena in Saratoga NY. Great show. This was my fourth time seeing Robyn, almost every time in an intimate venue on solo acoustic. The one exception was when I was in the audience for the recording of the "I Often Dream Of Trains In NY" CD/DVD. (I do not appear in the film).

2. Adrian Belew Quartet at The Egg in Albany NY. A fantastic show, once he took the stage. The multi-instrumentalist from his band opened the show with a solo set which bored the crap out of me. Adrian's set drew a lot from King Crimson as well as his solo work, and he even did Frank Zappa's "City of Tiny Lights" (that was him on the original). Some of the songs he did he cut short, turning them into little medleys. I would have preferred the full versions but it's a minor quibble. The concert was literally inspiring: Julie Slick's plectrum work sent me into the woodshed, and what I believe was an envelope phaser she used on one song had me reprogramming my Source Audio Orbital Modulator pedal.

3. The Bizarre World of Frank Zappa Hologram Tour at The Egg in Albany NY. This one was a disappointment. The band was legendary, but the sound was awful, and the show itself was an overblown, even corporate, visual spectacle that completely missed Frank's entire aesthetic. The set list was mostly the mediocre-yet-popular Zappa: "Camarillo Brillo", "Dinah-Moe Humm", "Stink Foot", that sort of stuff. In the words of the man himself: "save your money, don't go to the show". See Dweezil instead. He does this stuff right.
Main bass: LB76W. Also have an LB76 and BK40A.
Live rig: BX500 head into a pair of BRX10.2 cabs, oriented vertically.
