Pro Guitar Shop... CLOSED.

Postby Doctor Turn » Sat Oct 28, 2017 10:51 am

CRAP man, the whole PGS network of shops is done. FB announcement

https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_ ... 0030681707

Apparently Andy is going to keep the tone report end of things alive, but for those without FB, the announcement is as follows

To our valued customers,

It is with a heavy heart that I share with you the news that I am winding down the ProGuitarShop retail operation. While closing the business was a difficult decision, I am pleased to announce that the PGS and Tone Report legacy, built by my late husband Aaron, will continue.

Reverb.com and Andy Martin have partnered to carry the torch, continuing to support and produce the PGS and Tone Report content you’ve all grown to love. Andy will keep producing videos, and you can expect fresh articles on new and vintage pedals, as well as so much more.

Starting Oct. 27th, remaining inventory can be found in the ProGuitarShop Warehouse Sale on Reverb: https://goo.gl/swpRpg

I want to personally thank every one of you for supporting the community we’ve built over the years. We couldn’t have done it without you, and I’m so happy to know there are many more exciting years ahead.

As always, play ‘til your fingers bleed,

Kelly Miller

That's a shame. I don't know if I ever bought anything from them, but they put out a lot of great gear videos courtesy of Andy. That guy is a great player, and rarely even uses a pick.

Sad to see PGS close. I know Carvin is closing, but aside from those two I aven’t heard of any others... who else has closed shop?

This was the video that woke me up that "reissues" of the old Hagstroms were being made.. and then some, from which I happily tweezed this triple P90 and the higher end Northen:

Andy, the pickless youtuber, surely you recognize him? Andy will still be doing his Tone Report on Reverb. But this guy, TT--

Also the legendary Matt Umanov Guitarsin NYC is closing... vintage gear heaven and a staple in NYC since 1965:

PGS was certainly among the more reputable stores, but it’s not like there aren’t other places to get gear. I am glad that Andy’s demos as well as the Tone Report publications will be continuing, it would really be a shame to lose all three of those at once. It was bad enough when Rebecca Dirks left Tone Report.

He’ll always be PGS Andy to me, especially since I’m not exactly the biggest fan of Reverb (plus, Reverb Andy just doesn’t have the same ring)
Kiesel basses, lots of pedals, nothing wrong

On Reddit, everyone was saying how they all thought Andy's last name was Fromproguitarshopdotcom (or something like that).

I'd seem some gear demos, but never considered them as a retailer, though I rarely buy stuff new. It seems like the smaller operations are closing, and only the big names are standing tall, though they're also quaking in the knees.

I still think it's an effect of market saturation. I don't need any more guitars, amps, or pedals, and those seem to be highly profitable ($50+ for a boost pedal with a dozen parts in it is ridiculous). Seems like a rather interesting time to be alive, and watching the market.
We are entitled to our own, wrong, opinions.

Guitar theorem: G=X+1 where G= guitars one needs, and X = guitars one has.

Do or do not; there is no understand.
