Updates happening to Madison Square living room

Postby wickid » Thu Dec 07, 2017 8:39 am

So some updates have been afoot to my "sound / photo studio" at "chateau wickid".
If you've ever seen the link to my gear, you've seen, after a brief use of white sheets
(after 1st moving into my house), I've taken my "gear porn" shots on my black leather sofa.
It made for a great dark background for just about every axe I snapped a shot of, but alas
it has seen better days. (That's the connection to Carvin \ Kiesel for this post, anyway.)

Backstory - I saw my neighbors get a Raymour / Flannigan delivery a few weeks back. Sitting
in my La-z-piece of crap recliner, I got to thinking I should replace that. Then looking around
online and contemplating that in a couple months I'll have been in my house for 20 YEARS
now, and that sofa has been here for almost that entire time, it was time to retire it too.
The middle part has been getting faded, and my dogs finally but a small hole in that seat.
(That's how it goes I suppose.) So I also started considering a new sofa. Then I came upon
sectionals - combining both. I guess I wound up "keeping up with the Vegas" (my neighbors)
and went all out and got 5 of 6 pieces with powered recliners (the other chair piece would've
put "my" recliner in an odd spot for TV viewing, so I dropped it).

So here are some shots of the before, in between, and after. Yeah, theres a piece of crap cart
I use to put my coffee mug / pint glass, as well as keep the bills and such. I put that
ridiculous cardboard surround - made from a dog's crate box - around that to keep my pups
from sampling my beverages, lol. I kept that, as the new cup holders don't allow for a coffee
mug, and are just a hair uncomfortably out of reach. You'll also see the mats I put down for
my dogs to lie on (they wouldn't sit still for a pic of them :( ).
'Scuse any mess (summa yaz have really nice noise dens, mine is ... "lived in" ).

I suppose, after I recover from this expense, the next Kiesels I get are going to have a new
background.

Before -
(The tan leather recliner is now out on my roofed / screened in deck,
with a grill cover over it.)

The emptiness, waiting for the delivery. That chair was uncomfortable, but I only needed
to use it for 1 night (with NOTHING on TV that night!). -

And after (grey "leather" form of microfiber) -

With the fine accompaniment  -

I got all that on a Wed, and on that Fri I went to get a "free" oil change for my Edge ...
which cost me another $700 ... but I got a battery and brakes out of it. Its due for
an inspection soon, so I got it done. Timing just SUCKED, I just paid a lot for this!!!

Oh man. at 1st I was a bit uncomfortable with the $$$$, but after getting it, my 1st
impression was worth every penny (except it really dug deep into any "Kiesel fund")!
:woot:
Then my back went out last weekend, and still a bit tight (was NOT a good weekend).
Right now I'm a bit more comfortable on the floor with more back support. But the
powered recline is a great feature (as long as the motors don't give out).
Sciatica sux!!!

Great looking space!

Hey, my wife suffered from sciatica. I wrote a whole thing, but am trimming it down. The TL;DR version is that if you've already tried everything, go and get a food allergy test done. Certain things in her diet were causing severe autoimmune problems. She's been sciatica free (among other things) since approximately the summer. It's rare that sciatica is linked to an autoimmune problem, but in her case, we hypothesized that the pressure on her nerve was from inflammation that was autoimmune related.

I have chronic back problems. My back went out last week, too. Getting old, lol.

No joke, your living room looks almost exactly like my drummer's living room. The window itself is different, but I swear he has that lamp and the stairs, same style curtains, and a black leather couch by the window in a room the same size.

Congrats on the new furniture though, I need to get a new desk/practice chair and have been putting it off since I can't find one I like that is dark with no armrests or removable armrests. I'm only 28, but have an offset vertebrae and absolutely must have a comfortable chair to play in. I have found that not wearing a strap helps a lot to take the stress off my back. I also track with headphones and the weight of the headphones and their cable has been a burden in the past, so now I use a wireless set for tracking and my wired reference for mixing.

Back is better (normal) now, thankfully. I knew how I did it. I wrenched it tipping the snow blower when changing its oil. Woke up the next day all tight. I guess that lasted, off and on, for a few weeks. Sometimes some activity I thought would hurt it actually helped (raking leaves for example).

The dogs put their 1st "marks" in it, but it wasn't their fault. I put this tick "juice" stuff on their backs and forgot about what that did to my tan recliner. It gets a bit tacky and when you try to wipe it off, it takes some of the color off. This wasn't as bad as the recliner tho. But theres that now (like the 1st ding on a new Kiesel).

I was also looking at armless desk chairs quite a while ago - just to play w/o knocking the back of the guitar on the arms. I don't think I ever found anything exactly like I was looking for. Every desk chair I came across did not have removable arms. Good luck.
